I have seen some pretty big Carp that I wish I could catch. This spring I might try to catch some. :)

I keep netting(or landing...as no net would have worked) fish for this guy when we are bass fishing, and have lost two around the same size in as many years.  I did bump up to 16# line recently though from 12# lol. Last time I had one on we got it on  video and surface twice.  35 minutes later we also got it on video of the line breaking.

There was that one time 3 years ago and still to this date I`m not sure if the lure got stuck or I got a real hawk on the other side ( 20 lb+) pike most likely. The line snapped quite fast.

That's not a easy question.. My dad on a oil rig in 1968 ( Gulf of Mexico ) stuck a hammerhead.. They winched it up with cable, and chained it around the head, cable broke.. Chain held, they about had it nearly all the way out when the chain broke.. It was a large chain! I have slides of this shark... It was scaled to be 20 to 23 feet based on items in the pictures (slide film ) you can't see all of the tail though.. Biggest shark I've ever seen. We lived in Galveston for 3 years and I saw lots of big sharks hanging from poles on Galvelston beach, but never, ever anything approaching that size..

Bass

18-20 lb LMB chasing a trout on L. Casitas in CA. It went right around the boat.

8-9 lb SMB on the end of my line and I was in my float tube. It pulled me around for while, then jumped and came off. Midview Res., Utah

Was casually fishing off a dock at my friends house, in what i thought was mainly just a bluegill and small bass lake when i go get something to drink and come back, a good 10 pound Bowfin was sitting at the bottom, i was going crazy at first since the biggest Bowfin i had ever caught was only 6 pounds. so i calmed down, got a bluegill, cut it up, and put a piece on my hook. we fished for that for for about half an hour, and had him on the hook about six times, the only reason we couldn't catch him was because we were using bluegill hooks! He is now known as "Ghost" and shall be caught one of these days.

Fishing in the Everglades a couple of years ago in a honey holes my brother knows of were he catches 7+lb black drums all day long and 3+lb trout. I had what we beleive to be a very large black drum (10+) that fought my tooth and nail until he wrapped me up in the jagged rocks we had avoided all day. Man he pulled like a run away train. Finally my line stopped moving and low and behold I was wrapped up in the rocks and he/she was long gone :(.

That sound like a jewfish or gag grouper trick

We used to get into the juvenile jewfish in many of our trout/snook/reds spots back in the mangroves...lots of fun bit hard on tackle lol

I'll never know what it was but I'll never forget the fight and the defeat :(, I was so looking forward to eating it if it was good to eat.

Just today I saw a Grass carp in the 5-6 foot range. I saw it as soon as my popper landed on its head, lol. Made a splash big enough to spook every fish in the pond  :dazed-7:

Saw a ton of carp today at the pond. Spent about half an hour trying to snag them. Seems theoretically easy with treble hooks but dang, those things are smart. I hooked two but they came off as the hooks didn't get very deep. Even for the 5-6 seconds I fought them I was so amazed at their power. The smallest in the group was probably twenty pounds, I'd estimate the biggest at 50-60. Some of the biggest carp I've ever seen.

I have caught tons of monster carp in my time. I have seen ones that go 6' all day but never caught one of them that big. I know it is frowned upon but as for snagging them rig it like a drop shot with a heavy weight and use 2 treble hooks. Braided line also helps of course. Cast over them and reel up then let it rip and I can pretty much gurantee it's on. I started snagging giant carp when I was like 8 or 9. They are no joke when you hook into a 30# carp.

As far as I know, there's no law in NY prohibiting snagging carp. There are legit ways to get them to bite lures or bait.

Snagging is allowed in Indiana as well, also in the Ohio river @ Louisville... I've caught them on red wigglers a few times... Amazing power

When I was about 14 or so I went to down to catfish on the neighbors dock for a change of pace and i was kneeling right on the edge baiting my hooks when a massive shape slowly rose up next to the dock I thought was a gator at first but it was actually a monster 60 lb catfish that was covered in battle scars. It swam just under the surface the width of the dock and went back down as I frantically tried to get my lines in the water. Looking back I should have just tried to shove my hand in its mouth. I dont think me reaching for it would have bothered it a bit. It was just swimming along like it knew there was nothing big enough to eat it or bother it.
