Super User *Hootie Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 What do you find more enjoyable, buying a new reel or a new rod? Hootie Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I find buying the rod more enjoyable. But putting the reel on the rod is the best part! Quote
desmobob Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 What do you find more enjoyable, buying a new reel or a new rod? Hootie Yes. :-) Seriously, I guess it depends on what I'm short on at the time. Right now, I have two nice bait casting reels and only one nice rod, so buying a new rod will be more enjoyable. Then, I'll buy another reel, which will be enjoyable. Of course, then, I'll need to buy another new rod, which will also be a pleasure. Will it ever end? Tight lines, Bob 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 Buying a new rod & reel is more enjoyable! Quote
Cgrinder Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I got hooked on buying reels and reel upgrades for a while. However I think I'm past that and back to slapping Hawgtech handles on a Shimano and calling it a day. Keep an eye on the Flea Market for some pretty Daiwas as soon as my season is over. I will say that I bought a 7'7" *** Green yesterday on a great sale and that was pretty enjoyable. Quote

JGBassinAL Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 What is this sale you guys speak of? It hasn't ended yet.Hootie Quote
thehooligan Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I'm a reel guy, love upgrading them, but lately I've been getting more into custom rods. Another fun and expensive part of fishing... 1 Quote
IAY Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I love the intricate mechanical workings that goes into reels that makes them unique, so I am definitely happier purchasing them. Rods probably matter more for the overall fishing experience though. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 I lean more towards always looking for another reel. Needs to stop as I have way too many. Hasn't tho! Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted October 16, 2014 Super User Posted October 16, 2014 Wow, how did you get those deals? Visiting Gander Mountain and DSG stores at the right time, checking BPS TW St Croix sites at the right time. Like lately DSG has Crucials on clearance $90 so just maybe go there on a certain day and those rods will be 50% off clearance price and only cost $45 Quote
TrippyJai Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I buy more reels than I do rods. I'm a full handle cork guy and there aren't many options these days in the 200 price range. Quote
Hogsticker Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Unless building or having a custom built, I get more satisfaction from a new reel I can tweak and tune. Quote
Rangerphil Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I enjoy buying reels but when it is time to fish the rod is my favorite part. Reels are just fun to play with... Quote
xxmurrxx Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Reels, buying a rod causes me too much stress with all the options 1 Quote
Maico1 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I find buying both very enjoyable, however I find more enjoyment with the reels because I like to play with them........ Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted October 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 16, 2014 Baits! I knew there would be someone who wouldn't understand the question...lol. Hootie Quote
BassmanDan Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Another vote for reels...nothing like that first cast with a new toy!! Quote
