FunkJishing Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 whats the best baitcaster you've got for 50$ or less? weather it be your first ever or just something you liked and gave a try. I can honestly say that I got my pfluger criterion for 50$ when i needed a reel desprately while on vacation and it feels as good if not slightly better than a lot of reels in the 100$ price range. I still have it to this day and still use it. 5bb and 6.3-1 ratio. A great buy for 50 bones. 1 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 I still love my Abu Garcia Silver Max. That is in that price range I believe. Quote

Bruce424 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Pfluger templar. Lasted a long time too. My first baitcaster with more than two bearings with 7. After about two years it just got real noisy casting. 1 Quote
tholmes Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Abu 4600C3. Bought it used for $40, Abu ProMax 3600 for $5 at a yard sale. Check out the used market, you can often buy a like-new reel for around half (or even less) of retail. Tom 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 I have several reels at $50 or less. Here is one of my favorites in that range. http://tackletour.com/reviewdaiwaprocaster.html%C2'> $30 on closeout. I also enjoy my Pflueger Trions (well one left now cuz I gave one away). Both purchased used within that range. Ambassadeur Black Max 1600Cs were another excellent surprise at $33.33 each. Hard to backlash, handle light lures and high winds quite well. Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 The Abu Garcia "Max" line is great. Black Max, Silver Max and Pro Max. You can get the Black for $40, Sivler for $50 and Pro for $60 (I know, this is over the $50 mark) but they are all great reels. 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I got a Citica D for around $50 that I like quite a bit. Quote
Dave P Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Pfluger templar. Lasted a long time too. My first baitcaster with more than two bearings with 7. After about two years it just got real noisy casting. Ditto. Exact same experience and it went all at once. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 16, 2014 Super User Posted October 16, 2014 The silver max by Abu and also the BPS Tourney Special. Quote

Tom yea man definately, thats probably where i'll look for higher end reels. if they're cheap i'll just buy them new. Quote
Super User deep Posted October 16, 2014 Super User Posted October 16, 2014 None. Bought a couple of Citica D's for ~$60, a Citica G for $70, a couple of Curado G's for ~$80. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 16, 2014 Super User Posted October 16, 2014 Two used TD-X I got for around $40 each. Used > cheap new stuff. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted October 16, 2014 Super User Posted October 16, 2014 Two Ambassadeur 5000's, $29.95 each. Oh.... I bought them in 1969. Still work, and I still occasionally use them. Hootie Quote
Super User MCS Posted October 16, 2014 Super User Posted October 16, 2014 The old version of the daiwa exceler with mag force z paid 49 and 53 they are great reels Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Two used TD-X I got for around $40 each. Used > cheap new stuff. X2. For a brand new reel, the best use of $50 is to save up another $20 and put on a PQ when they go on sale (regularly). 1 Quote
*Hank Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 The Abu Garcia pro max is a great reel. You can get it off the outdoor pro for $50. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 17, 2014 Super User Posted October 17, 2014 I picked up a Citica G for around $40. Awesome workhorse reel. Quote
