Super User buzzed bait Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 royals are just looking dominant right now.... i'd like to see them win it.... for some reason i have this really vivid memory of seeing the royals stadium on a road trip to montana as a kid. not sure why, but i just remember eating at a diner and the view outside was of the baseball stadium. odd thing i know, but just how this brain of mine works. good luck to your boys.... in any event i just want the cardinals to lose.... i'm just a hater. xxmurrxx Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 They are on a roll thats for sure. GL to your team seeing as mine failed hard as usual.. (tigers) Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I watched some of the game last night. I think they will make it the whole way!! I want to see a Cards vs Royals series. 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Orioles have to go and crush my dreams then lay an egg in Kansas City. Grumble grumble. Quote
RSM789 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 As an Angels fan, the continued great play by the Royals is making our 3 & out a bit more easy to swallow. The Royals are focused on doing the things it takes to win and executing like professionals. Best of luck to them, although 1985 karma may be a ***** if they end up playing the cardinals in the World Series. Plus they have our announcers, Steve Physioc & Rex Hudler!! Those two were our announcers in 2002 when the Angels won the World Series, before dumb Arte Moreno came to town, changed our name to "L.A." & fired those two. No one is more fun to listen to than Rex the wonderdog!! Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 Royals deserve it all. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 I was a season ticket holder when I lived in KC during the George Brett Era. When the Rockies came to Denver I was there and one of the biggest fans. But then there was the World Series Strike in 1994 and I have never been to a game or watched one on television since. If the Royals make it to the Big Show my 20 year strike is over. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 As a lifelong Cardinals fan the 1985 Series is still an unpleasant memory. I would like to have a rematch this year. Whether the birds can make the big show remains to be seen. It does appear that KC is a team of destiny and it may not matter who they play. I can't help cheering them on. They are fun to watch. ABW Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 If the Giants beat the Cards then I hope the Royals win it all. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted October 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 16, 2014 World Series bound baby!!! Come on cards.... 1985 repeat!!!! Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Welcome back after 20 years. You will love this team. Since my reds jhave been out of it I have adopted the royals to watch. They played small ball all year but now are hitting for power as well. Plus they seem to make every catch when it is needed. I was a season ticket holder when I lived in KC during the George Brett Era. When the Rockies came to Denver I was there and one of the biggest fans. Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted October 17, 2014 Super User Posted October 17, 2014 As an Angels fan, the continued great play by the Royals is making our 3 & out a bit more easy to swallow. Those two were our announcers in 2002 when the Angels won the World Series, before dumb Arte Moreno came to town, changed our name to "L.A." & fired those two. No one is more fun to listen to than Rex the wonderdog!! Interesting thoughts. I would say when Hud and Phys were first brought on here there was a lot of negativity towards them. Especially Hud, He was just completely different than what we were used to. Plus it didn't help that he was looked at as the replacement of Frank White who was and always will be a fan favorite. He is a hometown legend and pretty d**n good at being the color commentator that was low key and told it like it was versus Hud who is over the top and in your face. Frank probably called the organization out more than they liked and it cost him his job. I think that is what I appreciated the most. In the last 29 years the Royals have MAYBE put 4 teams on the field worthy of a playoff spot. Most of those other years have been pathetic. Rex on the other hand is all positive all the time. Some people like that. Personally I would rather have Frank back. I remember I made up my mind about Rex when he said something about Billy Butler's speed or lack there of. He said "Billy runs well. He is just not that fast". Interesting way of looking at it. Slowly people are coming around to Hud. Me included. He doesn't bother me as much, but I could do without him. Phys on the other hand, I would like him gone yesterday. His Royal slant is just too much for me too handle. In his eyes they probably should have won 162 games this year. You can definitely tell the organization brought these two guys in to be their puppets. Go Royals!! Quote
RSM789 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 You are spot on with your description of both, although I would call them "homers" more than puppets. It is almost comic relief with the two together, sometimes they start arguing about something on air & neither will give an inch. I met Hudler at a Down Syndrome fundraiser (he has a son with Downs as does a friend of mine) and he is the same bundle of self-deprecating energy in person as he is on the air. I don't think he ever got through reading a lineup card without tripping over himself, but he would always be the first person to laugh about it. When he was a player, he was being heckled by some fans who said something along the lines of "Hudler you suck". He went over to them and said "you guys are right, I can be horrible at times. I have no idea why they pay me to play". The fans were kind of stunned by the response & Hudler just kept doing what he does best, talking. in a matter of five minutes, he had won them over. He is the true definition of a people person and what you see is sincere. There is so much fakeness here in SoCal, I guess I really appreciated someone who is that real. It seemed like the players always liked him. We have been lucky with announcers in this area, from Vin Scully to Chick Hearn to Dick Enberg & others. Over the years, I was getting so tired of East Coast bias on national broadcasts & ESPN that I find myself enjoying an announcer who is rooting for my home team. Kind of like having a buddy over to watch the game & announce at the same time. Does Hudler still announce while holding on to the signed baseball from Ernie Harwell? He was so proud of that ball, almost as much as the World Series ring he got as an announcer. I hope he gets another one this year. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 He always has ball in hand. I don't believe it is signed, but I could be wrong. And don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice enough guy and I am sure he is, but he wears on me game after game. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted October 21, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2014 Hopefully this time tomorrow KC is leading the series! 1 Quote

And don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice enough guy and I am sure he is, but he wears on me game after game. There was an article today in the Orange County Register (local paper for our area) that had an interview with Hudler. He was comparing this Royals team with the 2002 Angels, how they both were 3 years in with new management, had a lot of young players, got hot in the playoffs and played the Giants in the World Series. Typical Wonder Dog, he is positive the Royals are going to win. He can be a good luck charm, hope his mojo works for your team. Quote
