Dypsis Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I am looking to pull the trigger on this reel in the 7.6 gear. It will be mostly used for 3/8-1/2oz weight range. Primarily jigs, spinner & buzz baits, as well as the occasional top water baits - poppers, spooks, frogs, etc. Just looking to hear from people that own or have used one and see what you think of it. Thanks! Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Great reel. Not my favorite for spinnerbaits, but it will do the job just fine. Just doesn't have enough power for my liking. It would feel right at home throwing topwater and jigs though, and it palms great. Quote
Arv Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I like mine a lot. It took me a while to get used to the different brakes, but we get along great now. Quote
TiNuts Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I love mine. Very nice reel. My only complaint is it seems after so many perfect casts it wants to start back lashing and I have to crank down on the brakes to stop it, then back them back off. Some days I have to do this a few times. Quote

TiNuts Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 That's pretty bizzare. Doesn't sound good at all. Yeah I don't understand it either. It casts perfect, wonderful casts for hours, then all of a sudden it backlashes, and then does it every cast. It seems tightening up on the brakes doesn't have any effect unless I make a very drastic tightening, pretty much to the point that it will only cast about 10 feet. Then it stops back lashing, and I can free up the breaks back to where it was at and then perfect beautiful casts for more hours. I guess it's new enough I should send it in. Quote
stk Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I've had mine for almost an entire season now and have it paired up with a shimano worm and jig rod. I love it so far for jigs and I can throw weightless senkos and flukes with no problem on 30lb braid. I set two brakes on and don't really have to touch the them too often. The weight and size work pretty well and it's too expensive for me not to use all the time. Quote
aprestonSEK Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I have the 7:6 and mainly use it for throwing 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs and it casts great. Put two of the breaks on and turn the dial to 3 or 4 and your good to go. It has plenty of power to haul fish out of heavy cover and has a great drag when you need it. It will be good for all of the techniques you listed. Quote
Dypsis Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Thanks for all the replies, it looks like it should work great for my applications. Hopefully (for me) TiNuts just got an odd one - hope its an easy fix for you. Quote
Fish_Whisperer Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I love mine! I set one brake on, and set the dial to two clicks away from 1. Use that setting for almost everything. Quote
ColdSVT Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 My fav reel in my line up! I use it for t rigs and jigs mostly. Works great! Thing casts with very little effort, nice a smooth, plenty of power, light and comfy in the hand. Mine is a 7.6 on a 13 ***. Just remember to lube the brake pipe every now and then. I have 2 brakes on and the dial set on 3. Most of what i throw with it is 1/4 to 3/8ths Quote
OnthePotomac Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 It is an interesting reel in any speed. It sort of casts itself as opposed to the heft some reels take for distance. I quickly found that over powering the cast with it does not work very well. Literally a flick of the wrist is all it takes and it really takes off. I set mine with two brakes on and a dial setting of "1". I really like the 7.6 and the slower one. Mine are used for plastics on 7' MH Carbonlites. Quote
ColdSVT Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 ^^^ you aint kiddin! The effort is minimal compared to my curado and citica Es. My new curado I also needs little effort to cast... Quote

I'm used to heaving my lures out there a lot of times. That made for backlash city a few times. It's crazy how effortless casting this reel is compared to other reels I've used. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted October 15, 2014 Super User Posted October 15, 2014 I use my 150Hg for my square bills and wake baits on a Dobyns 705cb glass. I have a hard time setting this down as I always want to use it. (when I actually get to fish that is......) Quote
BassmanDan Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I got one in the spring and like it so much I had to pick up a second one. I like the way it fits my hand and the performance as others have said is fantastic. A can't miss in my opinion. Quote
