HardcoreBassin Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 So I have never fished a squarebill until recently. I love the action and I love that I can bounce them around rocks and logs. Over the weekend I tied on a brand new KVD 1.5. I casted it out and felt the action of the lure. Then, nothing. No wiggle, no wobble, no dive. Nothing. I was fishing in patches of weeds, so I reeled it in thinking there were weeds on the hooks, but instead I found that the bill broke off... Has anyone had this issue? Do you think there is any way I can fix it or modify it into something else? It just sucks that I spend $6 on a lure and then 2-3 casts into fishing it, it just breaks. Quote
MO_LMB Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 You're best bet is to contact Strike King, tell them what happened, and see if they will send you a new lure. They have done this in the past. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 Square bills break, it just happens because they aren't indestructible (although some are close haha). But KVD 1.5s last longer than that, I would agree with contacting the company and explaining what happened. You could invest in cheaper lures like the bomber square A or H2O express they produce just as well but are cheaper. Don't give up on the 1.5 because it is a great lure. Oh and don't throw away the hooks lol 2 Quote

They have done this in the past. This. I had a defective squarebill that sank and contacted Strike King via email. Sent the bad one in, and they sent me back 3 new ones, a hat, and a catalogue. Had another squarebill that the eyes came off. Sent pictures via email. They sent me 3 new ones, no hat or catalogue. Strike King has great customer service... 1 Quote

Strike King has great customer service... I guess you are one of the lucky ones who actually got a reply from Strike King. Their customer support sucks, for every person you hear about not getting a reply, another person gets extra replacement baits and a hat. I tried contacting them a few times about issues I had with the 1.5 and they've never replied to me. I had quality issues along with some breakage with the 1.5. Looks like this one is going to break too and I bately used it or bumped it against anything. I do want to mention that not all of them break. I have ones that don't have paint left, beat to death and they have held up. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 I have emailed strike king before as well and never got a reply... But I still hear of people getting replacement baits so I would still try contacting them Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 I just looked on their site. All I see is a phone number so I'll give them a call and see what happens from there. Thanks for the help guys! I'll let you know how it turns out. Quote
Texas Pride Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 If they give you three a hat and catalog for one broken one maybe i shoul take some pliers and break off the lip Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 If they give you three a hat and catalog for one broken one maybe i shoul take some pliers and break off the lip That very thing is why lifetime warranties on rods get cut and why lure manufacturers don't replace broken baits on a consistent basis. I know you are joking but there are people out there who do that sort of thing. 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 First take it back to the retailer. 99% of the time they will swap it out. Next, contact Stike King and they will probably send you two! 1 Quote
ABW Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I've tried the H20 crankbaits recently, they are a cheap alternative. Also you could try more durable crankbaits with fiberglass bills (Spros, Arashis, Jackall Aska) Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Yes H2O are good. I called SK on phone and had good luck. Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 I contacted Strike King via e-mail today. They got back to me within 15 minutes and are sending me replacements. I'll keep you all posted in case you run into a similar issue. Thanks for the tips everyone. I've heard good things about Spros. I'll probably look into some of those. -Dale 1 Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Hey all. Wanted to drop an update on this. I emailed Strike King last week and told them what happened to the lure. I came home today and had 2 boxes from Strike King at my door. They sent me 3 green gizzard shad, 3 sexy shad, 2 gizzard shad and 2 chartreuse sexy shad lures (all KVD 1.5 Square Bills) and a Strike King hat! 5 Quote
