Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 22, 2007 Super User Posted March 22, 2007 www.jannsnetcraft.com You should find the what and how on this sight. They have all the parts and books on how to. Quote
bassnleo Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I order the heads already poured and painted then build my own. All the sites mentioned will have everything you will need. Quote

rosewalt Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Thanks alot for the info Im making chatter baits and its going fine I think 300 of them should hold me now on to spinner baits Quote
grid Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I'm interested in making some spinerbaits for myself. How much money is involved to get started if I buy the ones with the heads poured and painted. They really seem easy to build. Quote
ominousone Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 GridIron, I thought that making some quality spinnerbaits wouldn't be too expensive. Well... I ordered a mold to pour into wire forms, owner hooks, quality swivels, premium finish blades, clevis's, 3-d eye's, and a few other items I can't remember now. My total came to $250 or so w/ enough equipment to make 100 spinnerbait's. Now in the future I won't need to buy the mold again (40 bucks) so 210, I ordered enough blades so that I could do tandem willows, tandem colorado's, brass color, nickel color... basically a lot more blades than I'm gonna use on the hundred wire forms and hooks I bought. So maybe you could knock the price down to $200 or so. So basically I'm pouring the heads and getting top of the line for about 2 bucks w/o the skirt (I have a bunch of living rubber, so I didn't buy any, and I can't remember what I pd for that). Basically I have to say this about luremaking in general, if you want to save money look for sales and buy your lures when they are cheap. If you want to make money selling lures, you better practice making your own for a long time because the guys that sell them are really good and you'll need some practice to compete. If you want the satisfaction of throwing a beautiful lure specifically designed by you to catch the fish that are in water near you, then you can't beat making your own. If you are doing this for the long haul and can see making your own as a ten year investment because you fish so much this may also be a way of saving money as well. Sorry for the long post I guess I got to ramblin. Quote

How much money is involved to get started if I buy the ones with the heads poured and painted. They really seem easy to build. This would be the cheapest way to start to so if it is for you? Buy pre-poured and painted heads (this would save you a lot of trouble), banded skirts, swivels and blades, etc. to assemble. What ominousone said is right about getting into tacklemaking. If you like it and do not pour any other lead jigs, etc I would just have someone else pour the heads for you? Right now I have a couple custom molds that were $200 each to pour spinnerbaits so it can get expensive depending what you want. Allen Quote
grid Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I will probably buy the pre poured heads. I just think it will be cool to make 10 or so to fish with and give a few away. Hoping someone will catch a bass on a lure I put together. Thanks everyone for your input. Quote
