Super User slonezp Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 I got a PM from MarkH024 today. Mind you we have never met and only conversed on this forum. We are both from IL and both have homes in WI. He saw a Tundra pulling a black Lund Saturday morning in Madison WI. and asked if it was me. It was. I was headed to Lake Wisconsin and then on to the summer home. I've always wondered when I see a guy towing a boat or someone with a bunch of fishing rods in the back of his car "Do I know him from a forum?" What I am guilty of is giving a rig being towed a complete once over. Many time I speed up to check it out. I guess how old the boat is, I look to see what electronics it has, what motor and what trolling motor. Is it a trailer queen or used and abused, I try and guess what he's fishing for. If he's leaving for a trip or coming back from one. On the way home today I was trying to figure out why a guy had an older Nitro bass boat and had 4 Cisco rod holders screwed into the back deck and why someone else would buy a 165 Pro Craft with only a 50hp on the back and why the guy with the Pro Craft that had the 225 on the back was with such an ugly girl when I saw them at the Road Ranger....You know.... I'm guilty of things like that. Are you guilty? Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 If people took a close look at my boat they would know I'm a member here. I've got a Bass Resource sticker on the windshield! What I've been guilty of is ending what I like to call the rolling boat show. I can't count how many times on the way home for a long tournament day I would have someone pull up in the left hand lane and pace me while they checked out the boat. The poor guy drooling while his wife is nagging the hell out of him about how "You're Never Going To Own One Of Those!" Hey, I got in the slow lane so the guys that keep up with the Greyhound Bus can get around me, not so I can get stuck in traffic. As soon as I would come up on slower traffic in front of me, I'd flip the turn signal and start heading left. Usually I was only half way to the wreck when the wife would start screaming at the poor sap before he'd slam on the brakes. Boat Show Over! 2 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 i don't even own a boat, but do the same. i definitely scrutinize a kayak with some fishing rods too.... one day i was riding on 285 here in Atlanta and saw Casey Ashley pulling his boat... it was early on a Sunday morning so i start doing the same thinking you're describing and thinking why here and not on the lake.... got home and looked it up to see that he missed the cut for the tournament he was fishing. so yeah i'd say i do the same thing as you to some degree 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 I am well aware that this is a common practice and on various occasions I am guilty of it myself. I prefer to lay low so that's why I travel incognito - A-Jay Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 I'm always like, 'Where is he coming from? Fish are over there..." LOL. Quote
BassnChris Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Yep...guilty as charged. I sport a bassresource sticker on my truck to facilitate identification.......the sticker has started a good number of fishing conversations with people I have not met before. Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 When I see someone towing a boat and I'm not I'm wishing I was going fishing too. Love new adventures. Have been blessed to fish all over the United States for bass and it's neat to see so many boats here out east. In Oregon if you see a bass boat you probably know the guy and know where he was or is goin. Tight Lines Quote
