bcarter261 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Hi Guys, Been lurking a really long time here on Bassresource and this is my first post! Anyhow I was hoping some of you guys may be able to help me figure out what's going on with my power tilt/trim. I believe I need to bleed the cylinders (rams) because recently it stopped staying all the way up when raised. I noticed today the hoses were leaking pretty bad on the bottom of the pump so I tightened those up and checked the oil which was pretty low. I went ahead and filled it, then cycled the system up and down several times to bleed it. This system has the reservoir inside the boat with lines to the rams. It has two rams one on each side of the outboard. It's a 35 hp I believe an '86. Please let me know if there are any details I can fill in to help find a solution. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted October 12, 2014 Super User Posted October 12, 2014 Did you check the oil level again after cycling it a few times? After raising the motor all the way and see it it is still full. You may have to do it a few times. Quote
bcarter261 Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 Yes I cycled through it up and down with the fill screw out and the level when in the up position is all the way to the threads. I did this multiple times throughout the day Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Should be good! Was the first stuff to spill out foamy? I don't know how acessible the fill port on yours is, but mine is a pain. I fill it with a syringe. Quote

The first to spill out actually had no foam at all.. I checked it earlier and if I put it all the way up and let go it still droops down a bit. I'm not sure how far it would go down if I left it overnight but I don't have room in the garage to try unfortunately. I personally still think it has a little bit of air inside the cylinders. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Once you fill the reservoir and cycle it several times the air is out of the lines and cylinder. If it's still bleeding down you probably have bad seals. Quote
Catch 22 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Most T & T`s have a bypass valve usually operated with the twist of a screwdriver. With the motor up operate the valve to let it down. Now run the t -t motor for a while, maybe a minute. That should purge the air bubbles into the reservoir. Close by pass to check it.You may have to add oil and do this a coupla times. OR your O rings may be leaking==time for a rebuild Hope this helps C22 Quote

If it's still bleeding down you probably have bad seals. I've read multiple different opinions so I'd like to at least try to bleed it properly before I make that assumption. Quote
