Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 12, 2014 Super User Posted October 12, 2014 I don't care what it is as long as it has a bow tie on the grill. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 The company I work for has a fleet of Ford diesels and they are having a lot of problems with the 6.7 trucks. Out of about 50 trucks over half have had some type of issue that required towing at less than 100K miles. The old 7.3s are still going strong though. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted October 12, 2014 Super User Posted October 12, 2014 Am I the only one around here that limits their choice of truck due to the "A-Plan"? Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 12, 2014 Super User Posted October 12, 2014 Am I the only one around here that limits their choice of truck due to the "A-Plan"? If your A-Plan is the same as my city's pension plan where you get less per month when you retire but those benefits carry until your wife's death in the event that you go first, then yes, that would limit my choice, but I have 16 years left before I retire.... But then-again, I keep vehicles until they need to be replaced. No less than 10 years for cars/trucks, and I still have the '95 Suzuki sport bike I bought new and won't stop riding until it quits. ClackerBuzz Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 As far as comfort goes I prefer Chevy, the Allison tranny its hard to beat durability wise, too. The 7.3 Powerstroke was an awesome engine, but was discontinued. I'm not a fan of the new Powerstrokes. I don't think u would go wrong with either truck. Personally I drive Chevy, now that Dodge stepped up and put a diesel in a half ton I would at least look at it. wow that's spot on retiredbosn. my two buddies are independent mechanics that own a shop. i asked them what truck they recommend for landscape towing/plowing etc and they said hands down a Chevy w/ Allison tranny (7.3 if I could find it). they say Fords are riddled with problems. and Dodge's are an organized pile of scrap. apparently Dodge uses such cheap steel that rusts right out of the gate. they had a 3 yr old Dodge truck on the lift that needed it's break lines replaced b/c they rusted out. few weeks later they had another Dodge on the lift and the transmission pan literally had a rusty hole w/ fluid oozing through. these guys are gear heads that race, ride, repair and own cars, trucks, snowmobiles, harleys, crotch rockets, 4 wheelers etc. They only own Chevy's. You never mentioned ur intentions but I've also only heard great things about Toyota's Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 I heard a rumor the new nissan titans are getting cummins in them It's not a rumor Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 I go with the company that took no Government bailout and has had the number 1 selling truck in America for as long as I care to remember. Can we debate Pro Choice, Pro Life next? 2 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 Yea, I hope GM can at least make a truck with a Gov. Handout! Lol... aavery2 is dead on.. Ford took no money and they still have a better product..hehe... Quote
Super User RoLo Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 If you're gonna buy a truck, buy a Ford... I was a Ford guy for years, used to blow-off chevys at Old Bridge, Island & Englishtown Raceways. Be that as it may, THIS Ford is 'ugly' (needs new rubber too!) Roger Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 14, 2014 Super User Posted October 14, 2014 The Tundra's are nice, but they don't have a diesel model, nor a dually option. Those were deal breakers for my last truck. Would be my next truck (diesel dually Tundra) in a heartbeat! Haha....see what I did there. Jeff The diesel rumors have been around for awhile. A few oil changes ago the Toyota salesman told me that Toyota was in talks with Caterpillar to develop a diesel for the Tundra. I'm going to run my Tundra into the ground or buy their diesel if it ever materializes. Whichever comes first. 1 Quote
