BassnChris Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Went out again today looking for that fall bite......to no avail really. Caught a few sand bass and some bluegill.........the creeks have been packed with shad for the last couple of weeks........I'm guessing water has just not cooled off enough yet (still 79 degrees) for that great bite? That will probably change this weekend with forecasted cooler temps and a lot of rain. Quote

reb67 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 What should the water temp be for this great fall bite ? The lake I fish the water temp is in the low 70's Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 10, 2014 Super User Posted October 10, 2014 The water temperature here has been around 73-75 degrees lately, fishing hasn't been as hot as I hoped but it should be great soon! Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 In my opinion the bite is good for numbers and quality sized fish when the water temperature is 55-65 degrees. Once it drops to around 50 degrees number of fish caught seems to go way down but the average size of fish goes way way up and you have a real good chance at catching the biggest bass of the year. Super User gardnerjigman Posted October 10, 2014 Super User Posted October 10, 2014 60-70 is usually my best fall bite temps. Depends what wind conditions or rain conditions have done as well. can have 72 degree water but have 2" of cold rain come in and they turn on like crazy. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 70* water in Virginia and fishing stinks. Not much shallow and we just cant find them. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted October 11, 2014 Super User Posted October 11, 2014 The two lakes I have fished have been 65 to 70 here in Tennessee and it's been tough. Lots of bait and short fish. Fishing our tues night classic today. Weather looks like rain and rain.....we will see...could be good. Quote
Super User David P Posted October 12, 2014 Super User Posted October 12, 2014 Morning temps are 71-72 and get up to 74 and 75 throughout the days here. Still not fall bite whatsoever. Still got a long ways... Takes a good cold streak or cold nights to really cool things down. we've got a cold front and rain coming our way this week, should help a bit. Quote
Skeeter Dan Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 All next week the low temps here in West Tn are suppose to be in the high 40's to the low 60's and the highs in the high 50's to the mid 70's sound like fall bite is here. Pickwick lake here I come. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I was out this past weekend and despite it dropping to near freezing the night before, the water temp was still on the low side. The front + clear skies and super clear water made it a tough day. Definitely no big bite: 2x 14inchers, and one pickerel that was somewhere in the 20" ball park that I shook off boatside because I was too lazy to deal with teeth and take a measurement. The pond is very shallow and the fish were super lethargic. Quote
