(='_'=) Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 well, i have been fishing a lot lately, or at least trying to, and i was getting tired of having to load/unload the tackle every day. so i came up with these, a tool/tackle box, and a rod holder. jut wanted to share, maybe someone will find it useful. the tackle lives in the box, i just remove the rods if im not going again the next day... 2 Quote

Super User geo g Posted October 9, 2014 Super User Posted October 9, 2014 Nice set up on the truck. I can see you take your fishing seriously. I have heard its not good to leave rods in a hot vehicle day after day. Do you just transport them to the lake and back home? Quote

Djf3864 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Do you use anything in the front part of the truck to keep the rod tips up, or is the rod holder in the back sufficient? Edit - Nice set-up by the way! Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted October 10, 2014 Super User Posted October 10, 2014 Ok, I have always thought about that type of a rod holder- now I'm definitely going to have to make one. Nice work man!! Quote

Edit - Nice set-up by the way! i use a bungee cord on the front, tied to the grab handles... if it gets tight enough, it lightly pushed the rods against the ceiling, preventing them from moving much... thanx!! Jay Ell Gee Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 What model truck do you have and what length rods fit up top? I have a long wheel base 4 door 4wd trd Tacoma and that makes me wonder if I could do something like that... Quote

I have a long wheel base 4 door 4wd trd Tacoma and that makes me wonder if I could do something like that... well its actually not a truck, but an SUV, i drive a 2002 Xterra, and i can fit my 7' rods easily, maybe up to 7' 6" im guessing. for a truck i would do something different, maybe a sturdy PVC pipe secured on the bed of the truck with smaller PVC pipes inside.... Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 13, 2014 Super User Posted October 13, 2014 Like the drawers. For guys who don't feel like innovating, a commercial version of your rod holding design is available from Rod Savers for around $20, and it is adaptable to a side variety of vehicles. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I've been looking at doing something like that in the bed of my truck. Kind of a organizer where I can lock up my spare trolling motor and keep tackle im not using that day in and out of the boat. Quote
gramps50 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 My pickup has a cover on it. I carry fishing gear with me most of the time. I didn't want my rods just bouncing around the bed so I took 2 spring loaded shower curtain rods and put the across the bed, front and rear. The rods are the covered with pipe insulation. I the use Velcro straps to hold the but ends in place. Having a short bed truck they lay at an angle. I then have some soda cases to hold tackle. Makes loading and unloading quick when I want to use the truck for something else. Quote
