Squirmin Wormin Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 This doesn't apply to areas that have warm climates during fall and winter but those that have cold climates . Since its fall and with not much time till winter, is your fishing going like you planned ? or not like you hoped it would be? Where i'm at there's probably a good 3 wks left and like to get another 10 or 15 more bass if possible. So what's your outlook on these last days you have left fishing before winter gets here? your op. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Started off slow both days over the weekend. The water dropped from 67 on Saturday afternoon, to 61 on Sunday morning. Once I could figure out what they wanted, the fishing was pretty good. Caught them on jerkbaits Saturday, and buzzbaits on Sunday. The October full moon is Wednesday. I'll be on the water for sure that night. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I love fishing in the late fall here in New England. There aren't many people on the water. Summer tourists are gone, kids are in school, and a lot of fisherman switch to hunting. The bite definitely slows down numbers wise but the average size increases a lot. Late fall is a great time to catch a truly monster bass. they become somewhat predictable. There are times when you have to fish 40 feet and others when 10 feet is fine. They key is isolated offshore structure. I fish right up until the ice is too thick for my boat to break through. I usually fish until about thanksgiving. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 With school and sports I haven't been able to go fishing much so far this fall, the times I have went have been good outings Quote
Super User geo g Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Cant wait for winter and spring, the fishing gets crazy in South Florida. While the guys up north are ice fishing, and your boats are in storage, we will be catching up to 200 fish a day. Sometimes more!!!!!!!! 1 Quote
Chris S Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 We have power plant lakes that dont freeze at the warm water outlets and the colder it gets the more fish stack up! I have been out in 20 degree weather and catching 50 fish, you better have the cold weather gear or you are SOL out this way Quote
OroBass Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Its still mid 90 degree weather here in CA Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 I tend to get out when I can at this point. I am going to try my kayak out this Saturday. In the am it's going to be in the 50's with a high of 61. I also have one more tournament left at the end of October. Quote

Swampstud Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Michigans gettin a nice dose of fall, waters down to 59 here. Cold front #3 on its way, it hasnt slowed the fishin down one bit. Cought some sunday from 2-14fow. Best time of the year for me, besides tip up fishing for pike. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Working two jobs makes it tough to get out. Spent 6 hours at Wampatuck State Park in Hingham, MA the other day but struck out completely - not so much as a strike. The water temperature was 60 degrees and the water was down at least 6' from the last time I was here, and very stained to add. I threw T-rigged worm I know works, chartreuse and shad colored spinner baits, a bass and yellow perch Rapalas. I'm hoping to get out once or twice before the end of the season. I'm not going to Wampatuck, but going to a pond in Plymouth I've had better luck at. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Just seeing the title of this thread pop up makes me depressed every time I read it 2 Quote
mjseverson24 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 all but one day has been very good for me ( last weekend only caught 1 bass in 3 hours it was only 45 degrees with 25+ MPH wind and the lakes just hit turnover ) most of the fish have been great quality, I have 3 bass in the last month over 6 lbs and in the previous 4 months I only had 1. numbers have been hit or miss, somedays its close to 50-60 others its 15-25, either way it is just fun getting out... I have a 4 day weekend starting thursday, so I am heading up to leech lake to try and catch a few over 7 lbs hopefully the wind stays down and gives me a chance... Mitch Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Fishing around here is hit or miss this time of year. Either the bass will hit any bait you throw, or you'll have to work your tail off for a bite. Quote
Smokinal Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I love the fall bite and can usually have good days (20-30 fish) up until water gets below 40 degrees. It gets tough then. We fish until the water gets hard, usually going to a red lipless, jig and a jerkbait. Quote
