fisherrw Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I know the curado is 20 less.. But what do you think? Quote
ColdSVT Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Both rock but the shimano name and grips are about the only things similar about them Two different animals imo Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Not sure about the I but the 50e is a really good reel for 200. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Spool capacity should be your main concern Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Either, the I has a bigger gear set, 50E is smaller, They both are easy to palm, I give the nod to the curado I , it will outcast my 50e.. It's faster (7:2:1) and more powerful, the I is available in 3 different ratios, and the new braking technology is quite good.. The 50 is quite good as well... It really just boils down to you, the rod, and what you have in mind.. Either way , I believe you will really like both.. Yea, just buy both! Lol... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 7, 2014 Going to depend what you want to do with them. Don't have the Chronarch but I have a Curado 50E and no way I'd do with it what I do with my Curado I. Quote
John G Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Everyone should own at least one 50 size Shimano! 3 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Everyone should own at least one 50 size Shimano! X2 Except I doubt one would be enough! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 7, 2014 Everyone should own at least one 50 size Shimano! X2 Except I doubt one would be enough! What is it about the 50? I know the spool size is smaller, is that it? Never owned one, just asking Mike Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The 50 size are capable of throwing big baits but the lower weights are where they really shine. And of course the profile is smaller. IPT is nearly identical in standard ratio at 25 & 26 for the Curado. The high speed version Curado has an IPT of 30 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 7, 2014 Thanks Mike Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Mike L, they are casting machines. As good as my Alphas. Most on here would argue that (calling it better than an Alphas) being most on here are Shimano fanatics. Mine are a bit noisier than my Alphas on the cast. I have 2 of each with another Alphas on the way. Mike L (as in Lawson of DVT ) cleaned my new 51E, and repaired and supertuned my used 51E along with upgrading the drag and bearings. It will flat out launch a 5/16 oz. spinnerbait. However, the cleaned only reel is very close in distance. Great little reels. Quote

I think 50E will feel a lot nicer because of the smaller size, so I would go with that if line capacity isn't a issue. Quote
John G Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 What is it about the 50? I know the spool size is smaller, is that it? Never owned one, just asking Mike They are small but not too small. They are light, have great performance and they look great. I can see the line capacity issues for heavier lines but I have never had that problem. It's not like they have super shallow spools and are a very limited use reel because of it. Bantam 1 says the line capacity issue is the reason that we don't see a new Curado 50. He also said that Shimano's thinking with the 50 was that guys would start using braid with a leader so there would be no line capacity issues but guys have been slow to do that. Quote
fisherrw Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 I will mount the reel on a phenix x10 for top water jerkbaits and square bill cranks I'm not gonna use deep divers or any think So mabey the 50 will fit my application? Quote
fisherrw Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 I also allready have a 200e6 chronarch that I love. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 7, 2014 Super User Posted October 7, 2014 Curado I also has the revamped clutch as well, I used Diawa for years, I got use to re-engaging the clutch with my thumb, now on the "I" you can do the same.. On the 50e as you already know you have to move you're hand to the crank To re- engage... Not a big deal at all, just different clutches... Aluminum drag star on "I" and graphite on the 50.. Upgradable though..both reels are very good, both are different as well. Quote
