Super User clayton86 Posted November 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted November 16, 2014 Openin day of gun season was yesterday I sat in the AM lots of shooting close to me on the other side of the creek but I never saw any. Then we did some drives in the late morning early afternoon I kicked up 6 coulda shot the first two but they were headed for our sitters who haven't gotten a deer yet during bow so I let them go. No one shot at any we pushed out either no shots and the ones that did were button bucks. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted November 17, 2014 Author Super User Posted November 17, 2014 Had to put my tracking skills to work tonight for a good buddy who's wife shot her first buck ever. I was texting him at 429pm about a stand and heard a shot from their direction across the road in a differnt block of woods. 12 minutes later got a text saying it was wifey that she got the big 8 and he dropped but got up and ran. So I was having a coughing fit in my stand and offered to help since hacking up a lung isn't the best sound for deer to come to. Drove over to the other block met up with them and got the run down that it was a head on shot in this spot ran south. No blood no hair nothing just some kicked up leaves. Started following the path I thought he would take and sure enough 60yards later I see the reflection if a eye and nothing but rack. Was happy to end my hunt early to help track a trophy let alone a first buck. The omg I hate but love you look upon first walking up on him Not the big 8 he's a 10 with a broken g3 so woulda been at least a 11 if the g3 was there Quote

fisherrw Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I shot a buck this season just a little 3x2 Quote
nastynate Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 November 10th my target buck presented a 18 yard shot and my arrow clipped the only limb in its path. I looked at this limb multiple times before but dismissed it as no impact on my shooting lane. I was wrong! Arrow clipped him high but he is still alive and hanging around my stand after shooting light. The late muzzle loader season approaching and hoping he will make his appearance on the corn pile in killing light. 2 Quote
Capt.Bob Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I always stick it out, and anymore if a buck wont make Ohio big buck, (140" B&C measurements), they get a free pass from me. I almost waited to long try'n for that big buck this year, but then the week of Jan. 23 to Feb 1st when our season ends, with only one deer in the freezer, I started filling the freezer, and on the 29th this guy showed up with 4 of his buddies, not one under 140",,,,, I was excited and until he appeared I didn't know which one to shoot. With all his character it made the decision easy,,,, with the kickers and bleed hole, almost scorable split brow tines, I new he was the one I wanted to "let the air out of" but he had to get in bow range. after about 20 minuets they all filed past within 30 yards with him bring'n up the back, with the wind in my favor, I let em pass one by one, but he tried to to stay a little farther out,,, I took him at 42 yards with the Mad Max 380,,, all of em as a matter of fact with the same bow, including one in Oct. just cause I ran out and needed steaks,,, 8 days and 5 deer,,,, we should be good till next October,,,I hope, then it all starts again!! Here he is with 4 of his sisters that came to see me that week,,,, the cold temps and nasty weather allways makes it work for me,,, With three days to go I had passed on a multitude of buck's this year wait'n on that keeper, and not seen one that would make Ohio Big Buck, then 5 of em all come in on me at once,,, what a week,,, I started taking my doe for the freezer and after 5 days of bagg'n meat, my buck finally showed up. I will remember this hunt for a long time to come, all on public land the end of January,,,, what more could a guy want???? He had a G-4 broke off his right side but was a main frame 10 with two kickers on his left side, one on the G-2 and one at the bleed hole. he grossed 153 7/8 now it's time for some hard water fishing,,,, Buckeye style,,,, 5 Quote
