Help Picking 2Nd Spinning Rod To Compliment 1St Rod.

Right now I have a 6'6"ft Medium rod with a Plflueger 6935 spinning reel.  My wife has fished with me and she enjoys it and we want to buy another rod so we both have one to use.  I think it will be smart to buy another rod and reel that is a bit different than what I have.  I want a set up that will complement my current rod and reel.  I want something that is versatile but can also cater toward something different if that makes sense.  So I guess I am looking for something that is either lighter or heavier duty (to put it in layman terms).

 

Any suggestions in rod and reel configuations (rod length, power and reel size)?

I would get a medium heavy for your second rod, and pick up another pfluger to go with it.

Id say give her the medium and buy yourself a medium light.

Your question was asking about rods at different ends of the spectrum. You will get answers running the whole range. Giving us some info on what you already fish and what the body of water is like might yield more qualified answers.

I would pretty much agree.

 

Being only a spinning user this is what I use for bass fishing.

7' med rod 35 Pflueger, 15# braid.............for slop and vegetation.

6'6 ml rod 30 Pflueger, 10# braid............less vegetation with a bit more open water.

6'6 light rod 25 Pflueger, 10# braid.........open water.

These set ups work quite well for me.  Would I use a MH rod, yes if my water conditions dictated the need.

Maybe a ML rod would serve me well as Keeper suggested and it looks like you own one to accompany your med and light rods.

 

I have recently bank fished two nearby lakes several times without much luck.  I am having more luck at some local ponds catching largemouth bass.  I do not know the weight or length but just guestimating about 1-2lb bass mostly out of the ponds.  

 

I have seen larger catfish in these ponds but haven't fished for them.

The power of rod you get depends largely on what you throw (lure type and weight). If you give us a better insight as to what you do, we can better help you.

My best advice would be go to the store and handle some rods of all different powes. Ultra-light to heavy; if you can. Pick one that feels good and fish with it. Once you find a happy medium you can go up and down from there.
