Siebert Outdoors Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Do you guys think I can transform on of these poison jig heads into a good shakey head? Quote
harshman Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Gman, I was thinking of trying this myself as well. Stamina sells a piece called a hitch hiker that is a screw shaped wire that attaches to the eyelet of you're hook. I was thinking of trying to use this piece in place os a base pin or weed guard. Not sure if it would work without some modifying though. Here's the link to the item I am refering to. http://www.staminainc.com/soft_plastics/hitchhikers.html let me know what you think of this idea Harshman Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 cool thanks thats exactly what I was looking for. I just had a thought. I'm going to trim a pin so the mold is pretty smooth instead of having the hole. It will be a little heavier but oh well. Using the hitch hiker that you posted with that wide gap should hold the bait at a real good angle for shakin. Quote
jigfisherman Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 I have already done that here is a pic. Quote
bassdocktor Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 jig that looks awesome. I was wondering how something like that would look myself. bassdocktor Quote
jigfisherman Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Thanks, I get messing around and come up with all kinds of stuff. I have a standup also. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 How did you attach the wire to the head? Quote
jigfisherman Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I put a straight piece of wire around the shank of the hook before I before I poured them. Quote
harshman Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Gman I just got done trying the hitch hiker as a screw in and it worked perfectly. The only set back was I found out that you have to fill the center hole of the hitch hiker with something. I used a part of a figer guard and the pulled it out when I was done. I'll have pictures up shortly. My local BPS had the hitch hikers in stock and I used the smaller of the two they had available but I'm sure the larger one would work just as good. Harshman Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 31, 2006 Super User Posted December 31, 2006 Harshman thanks for posting that! I have been trying to figure out how to pour those hitchikers in my do-it mold for about a month. Allen Quote
jigfisherman Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I hope you have better luck painting those than I did when I twisted the wire first. The paint would fil in around the wire, thats why I started use straight wire and then twisting it. Quote

jigfisherman Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I used a small pair of needle-nose, may not be the perffect twist every time but works great. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 awsome guys, Harshman, I would suspect that the hitch hiker has an outside diameter of 1/8" and fits in the mold perfectly? From your pics it sure looks like it. I have aquired a few hitchhikers and will try this too. I think I might turn down the pin to hold the hitch hiker. I dont think painting will be an issue. Atleast I hope not. :-/ Quote
harshman Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I have had no issues with painting yet. I use a powder paint and before I bake it to cure I simply chip the extra paint off of the wire. The hitch hiker i used did fit perfectly into the mold with the exception of addint the fiber guard to the center while pouring it made this a very easy process. Harshman Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 I was fiddling around with this last night and I am going to hone down a pin or two. This should work out perfectly. Quote
