Hello,

Have never used straight shank Punch Hooks, so please bear with me a bit:

Re that black plastic tube, or plastic piece near the eye, that you see on

Punch Hooks:

What is its purpose ?

Is it (only) to prevent the bait from riding up over the eye onto the line ?

Or,...?

Looked, but couldn't find anything.

Is there some Link to a video that shows putting a plastic or other bait onto them ?

Thanks,

B.

The plastic bit that has a barb is a bait keeper designed to hold your bait I'm place and keep it from sliding on the hook.

There is also a dab of glue most company's put on the eye of the hook so your Snell knot doesn't get all messed up.

For punching I use the twist lock style hook allmost exclusively now.

They both work, just my preference.

those barbs tear the heck out of soft plastic. and they fail after enough fish.  not too much to brag about a $1 hook.

i use Mustad heavy jig hooks that are used for pouring ur own jigs. but just attach a do-it hitching post to the eye.  the screw lock keeps ur plastics from tearing and you still get the great hook sets as jig fishing w/ having to use a snell knot.

This is a very stout hook: Mustad 32786NPBN (about .20c each). This one is a large 5/0 for big soft plastics.

2/0 or 3/0 fits beavers much better.  I use this same set up for all my T rigs now as well b/c senkos last much longer.

Trokar t130 works pretty well for awhile. I have found the hook point will out live the bait keeper. Eventually it will start become looser over time and spin but thats after a solid season and the hooks themselves cant be beat IMO

X2 on the trokar t130.

Also. ....I picked up some vmc flipping hooks on clearence at DSG a few months back and they have performed really well. They may become my "everyday" flipping hooks since they're considerable cheaper than trokars.

Ill keep the trokars for tournements.
