BrownBear Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Saturday can't come fast enough!   After last week's fishing trip, I have been itching to get back out on the water. It's been raining last couple of days so hoping that will make for great fishing in the morning. Been reading a lot on worms and senkos, I want to work these hard tomorrow, but I am at the mercy of my friend who will be driving the boat. I try to complement to what he is fishing with, most of the time...lol. Quote
BrownBear Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 21MAR2015 Cherokee Creek area  Morning was full of hope as I was working the bottom as planned. Caught 5 Jacks, too bad not playing poker! Anyways, I caught one good bass around 3PM, pictured.  Water temp 45-60  Baits used: Watermelon lizard 4" and 6" - Jack x2 Rubber worm with bright neon green tipped tail - Jack x2 Fat free guppy crank - Jack White buzz - Nothing White Spinner - Bass! BrownBear Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 28MAR2015  It was freakin' cold! lol I didn't catch nothing, me and my friend had a plan. We both been researching and developing our plan, which of course goes out the window when you get on the water...lol. Oakley Bass Tournament was going on down at Wildwood, we went up to Soap Creek. Checked the results after we loaded up the boat, those guys must have knew what to do, man how discouraging seeing their weight-ins. It was crowded up at Soap too, seemed like everyone was out for the morning, almost didn't have a spot to park. Well, besides freezing my tail off, I had fun and enjoyed the day out on the water. Can't always get the fish I guess, but you can always enjoy your time. Quote
blackmax135 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 You got that right!!! We put my boat in on Friday to check everything out and as soon as I got the boat back on the trailer it started hailing!!!! That right there had my mind mest up. We started in grays creek and looked promissing caught a 3 pounder first cast after that nothing. The next day we went back out we decided to try the south Carolina side out. Started out with a 2 pounder that was it. About 1:00 we went farther up and and we found a good are and started catching good fish left and right just no 5 pounders. The guy who caught the 2nd place fish caught it with a spinner bait in 2 inchs of water. the guy first place new what he was doing but I think it was mostly luck of the draw. Defiantly had a blast my first time on such a beUtiful lake. 1 Quote

I had to raise my trolling motor up to even be able to fish it. We were very lonely where I was in soap creek. Only saw 1 other boat all morning. Everyone else we passed on the way in was fishing deep. I couldn't get anything going out there. Quote
blackmax135 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Heading up there inn a couple days, any suggestions where to start?seemed like the blue back and chrome rattle trap did the best for us pulling it off the bank going down a steep drop off. We also caught all our other fish on shallow running dark orange crank baits. The weather was compketley diffrent then wish I could head back out there. Quote

BrownBear Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Heading up there inn a couple days, any suggestions where to start? Probably work the shallows near the streams, according to blackmax135Â and Mtnfisher. I like Cherokee Creek and Soap Creek best. Fish have been in the beds last couple times I have been up. Should be pretty good fishing ahead with hopefully the last cold snap gone. Good luck to ya! Quote

Mtnfisher Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Nice one! Mind if I ask what you were using? Not at all I have no secrets. this particular fish was caught on a 1/2 ounce white chatter bait with a 4.5" lake fork live majic shad as a trailer white also. It went 7.05lbs for 7th over all in the oakley tournament.  we were all the way in the back of soap creek. we also caught several flipping a 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jig green pumpkin with orange. with a 4.2 beaver trailer in tramp stamp color going down the bank flipping bushes toward the powerlines on the right bank.  water was so dirty you only got bit if your flip was right on the base of bushes. every fish we caught was in less than about 3 feet.   1 Quote

It seems that may be the hot ticket right now..lol. Congrats on the tournament btw. I was going to enter one this month, but I realized I needed to practice more and save my money. Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted April 10, 2015 Super User Posted April 10, 2015 I drive a White Chevy 1500 4x4 will be towing a Nitro 911 CDC, thinking about heading out right now, will take about an hour to get there. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted April 11, 2015 Super User Posted April 11, 2015 Went up this afternoon April 10th, launched at the 378 bridge on Soap Creek, went up in the creek past the bridge. Â The hybrids were schooling in there this evening, the action was fast, and ended up with a couple decent hybrids. Â Never caught them before, definitely fun, caught them on a white fluke the super size 5" inch I think; the magnum 7" was too big. I would cast in when they were busting the surface and let it sink. Â If I started twitching the bait at the surface I didn't catch any got a few hits that I think were the bass just swiping the bait to stun it, I would let it sink, never took more than ten seconds and bam! 1 Quote
Joaquin Ignaeis Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 First time at Hill 22 Mar. We saw slot of fish in the shallows near the military rec area. Beautiful lake, water was very clear. Quote
BrownBear Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 I was up around Points West today. Saw the bass on the beds, they just didn't bite for me after 9am. Caught 2 *hybrids*. Here a pic of the bigger one. Caught using bass colored popper. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted April 12, 2015 Super User Posted April 12, 2015 Caught 2 stripers. Here a pic of the bigger one. IMG_20150411_080106305_HDR.jpg I'm not being a smart arse but, that's a hybrid, stripers lines are straight and not broken, it is hard to distinguish between them sometimes. Hybrids can get up around 20lbs, but typically top out between 10-15lbs, that's a nice fish. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted April 12, 2015 Super User Posted April 12, 2015 Corrected...thanks! I would like to know how to catch hybrids.and stripers consistently. They put up a good fight, I just luck into them; typically catch them by accident. I need to check the regs, sometimes there are different rules for each species. BTW SC, is doing a study on the striper in Clarks Hill, look for a tag on them, remove it send it back to the dnr with measurements and they send u a monetary reward. Some have an internal tracking device, so if ya keep one that has it they pay more, guess they can be reused. Not a good enough reason for me to keep one but thought someone would like the info.
