Here I sit anticipating tomorrow's hunt. The last time I hunted was 1982. I hope my grandson takes a good one. I also hope to gain personal knowledge on the application of mechanical broadheads.  Good luck to you all.

Nothing yet, Jeff. Nicholas saw a few turkeys. It was 44 degrees with a 20 mph WSW wind. I forgot how cold it can be 18 feet up a tree.

Well a safe hunt is a successful hunt!  I will be looking forward to hearing a VERY successful hunt soon!

It's already a very successful hunt, Jeff. I'm still able to do it. ..............My daughter came out in the garage Saturday night. Nicholas, Joe and I were all dressed in our camo. Danielle started to cry. She said it had been a long time since she'd seen me in hunting attire. There we were , three generations all decked out. I think the fact that Nicholas is continuing to look more like a man than a boy has some bearing on her tears as well. It was a GOOD DAY!................right now as I type this, there's a laborer in our kitchen jackhammering up our old ceramic tile.  There are three sisters painting the downstairs. And Kit just went for one of my "happy pills".        I'll be glad when this day is over!!..............take good care, Jeff. I'll keep you in the loop.

I broke the ice and took a doe last night. There will be sausage , bologna, and hot sticks :eyebrows:.  Joe and Nicholas are still looking for a big buck........ Neighbor apparently killed a big one over the weekend. They have about 200 acres posted up tight. That would be a nice situation........ Going for the results of last week's ct scan this morning. I always get nervous at these times.............Take good care , guys.

Some serious antler traffic in VA right now, on Thursday I watched a 6 point sprinting after a doe. Finally whacked my first deer this year with a bow as well. I am set up next to a trail that crosses a small river, I can see the smallies boiling from my stand when they chase shiners...I'm so conflicted while in the stand  :eyebrows:  :eyebrows:  :eyebrows: !

I got pinned up in my treestand last night right at dusk by two does. The dang things just wouldn't move on. Apparently they had found something good to eat in the ferns. I was about an hour late getting down. My wife got concerned and had my son-in-law heading to my stand to check on me. I still have yet to spot an antler.

Nothing like a deer sausage sandwich with mustard while out fishing for those big smallies.

You've got that right, Dwight. I had a few pounds of the doe I took earlier, into something new. He calls it Cajun sausage. I grilled the first patties last evening. Finger- lickin' good!................gotta be brown stadium mustard.............right?

Things are looking up. Yesterday afternoon on the way into my stand I spotted a fresh rub on top of an old rub. It's only 37 yards from my tree. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity to  see him during shooting hours. This morning we had our first snowfall here at the house ( enough snow to track a cat ).  If it stays cold maybe the rut will start in earnest.

Well, I went through the rest of the season, then all of buck season without seeing another buck. Unfortunately, yesterday, I found the young buck I had passed on earlier in archery season. Apparently someone had shot it in rifle season.............I had thoughts of going back and cutting the rack off of it. In passing; I mentioned it to a game warden and he advised me that I just leave it. I guess I would have been liable for a fine of up too $1500 if I'd taken that rack without the proper permit. We have another few days of archery season. If I'm going to connect it'll have to be soon. That warden did tell me of a big ten that he believes hasn't been taken yet. He even told me where to look for it. I thought that was kinda cool of him.
