No, if there is thunder or lightning. I won't start when it's raining hard, but I won't quit if it starts raining while I'm out.

Honestly, a number of guys in my area can only fish on certain days. Rain is not going to stop us when we have one goal: to get out on the water. I have fished in what felt like hurricane conditions before. I'm not saying that its for everyone but its what we do around here.

Experience and gear helps.  Good rain gear negates the rain, even heavy rain.  Being able to run the trolling motor without thinking negates the wind.  Those are the two big ones that keep people off the water.  

 

Weather is part of the game...Rain, wind, cold, hot, etc...With enough experience and appropriate gear you almost don't even notice it.  

 

I actually sort of enjoy adverse conditions because it gets everyone off the lake.  In tournaments it basically eliminates half the field since they can't or won't cope with it.

I won't go out in hard rain but light rain is ok.  If it starts raining while I am already out I don't go running for the dock.  I just keep fishing and I find I catch more fish.  Lightning does scare me but that just means I am casting side arm more and staying close to cover and not fishing in the middle of the lake.

As a semi-retired human, I can almost fish whenever I want to.

 

I fish from a canoe, and while I am fairly waterproof, fishing in the rain really floods the boat and soaks my gear.

 

I do it a few times a year and ALWAYS regret it.

 

The bite is never that good and it takes two days to dry everything out.

 

I prefer to wait for less moist conditions.

I don't like launching the boat in the rain, but if I'm already out I'll keep fishing.  I've been out in rain so  heavy that navigation was difficult, couldn't see very well.  In that case I tied up to a tree and waited it out.

 

I never leave the launch area without the rain suit in the boat, spring & fall - Cabelas Guide Wear, summertime I find that Frogg Toggs are sufficient.

Rain I have no problem with, when lightning starts to get close I get out of there.

There is a big difference between inclement weather and light rain. Going out on the water during a severe storm with heavy rain, high wind and possible lightning strike is foolish and life threatening. Fishing during light rain is a different story and I look forward and prefer to fish when it's light rain without high winds.

Thanks a lot guys for all the great replies! I did not expect all that and I appreciate it. Makes me feel good to hear from others because I don't really know anybody who I am close to who loves to fish as much as me and you talk about fishing in the rain and people think you are nuts. I have the same deal as one guy above posted and that is only being able to go on certain days and it is hard to not take advantage when I can. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and so long as it is just rain I'll be out there. I will gear up well and see how it goes. If the weather forces me to bail I will. 

 

And I do enjoy the fact that rain keeps a lot of the other fisherman away as some mentioned above. I have noticed the football season does the same on Sundays. I love it! Thanks again for the input fellas

Found out if I keep my mouth shut in the rain I will float!!!  Like fishing the rain...like fishing on football weekends...anything to have the water more to myself.....

Light rain's not a problem.  Wind and lightning send me home.  Been caught out in bad storms a couple of times.  I didn't know if I was going to make it back or not.  Not only was I scared but I wasn't fishing either. 

I like my recliner while it's storming.

if its above 60 degrees I will fish regardless of weather, if there is lightning I typically head to the nearest launch and just beach the boat, and hang out under the trees till its gone. If it is between 40-60 I will still go with light rain, but heavy rain in 40 degree weather sucks, and typically so does the fishing...

See the rain ripples on the picture to the left?  I make it a point to fish fronts.

As long as there is no lightning, I am out there in heavy rain or wind..

By this I mean bank fishing.. (I wouldnt go out in a boat in adverse conditions)

 

update: heh I just went out in the front this morning and they were liberally biting nothing huge.. biggest 15"
