Super User tcbass Posted October 2, 2014 Super User Posted October 2, 2014 Besides a new bass boat somewhere down the line (few years) and 2 new rods for combos that I want better rods on next year (selling the rods) I have really reached the majority of what I need. I have 5 baitcasting set ups and 2 spinning set ups and that's all I really need. I don't have any more room in my current boats rod locker anyway. And with the size of my boat I can usually only put about 4 rods out at a time anyway. But I really have everything covered. I don't need any more rods, tackle boxes, reels, or any of the higher priced items. Â So, besides the usual small stuff like Senkos or plastics that are lost or destroyed, weights, hooks, and other small items that need to be replaced yearly, there really isn't anything I need to buy for fishing next year. I may buy an Ima Skimmer and Ima Roumba but that's it. I have plenty of lures that I haven't really even used enough yet and some that are still in the box. Â Â Â So, have you ultimately reached the majority of what you need to buy for fishing besides the minor stuff that requires replacing every year? Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I'm going to hesitantly say yes for where/how I fish. I have one spinning rod I use the majority of the time and two baitcasters that I use sparingly. I'd like to upgrade my worm/jig baitcaster next year to something a little nicer though. It's currently a 7' MH BPS Carbonlite and I liked it until I used my buddy's Quantum Smoke. The Smoke was more sensitive, even with mono. So I may upgrade, I've been thinking about an ***.  But otherwise I'm set for now. OntarioFishingGuy Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Sure, I have everything I need, but that means nothing. ME WANT MORE... Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 3, 2014 Super User Posted October 3, 2014 Basically no. Â It is the classic dichotomy of need versus want. Â Do I need any more stuff? Â - no Do I want any more stuff? Â - yes. Â And there you have it. Â Â I'm pretty sure I will upgrade rigs from time to time until I die. 1 Quote

benthinkin Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Sure, I have everything I need, but that means nothing. ME WANT MORE... I don't think any sentence could describe the bait monkey better than this! Quote
Basseditor Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I have about 20 combos that I use regularly and 15 more in rod tubes stored away. I'm set there, well except for one more reel. I have tubs of plastics and crank baits still in the package. But you can go through a lot in a day. I bet we used 30 Senkos in one day last weekend. Fish were biting! So you always need more baits but hardware I am set until a new special reel comes along. Quote

Super User F14A-B Posted October 3, 2014 Super User Posted October 3, 2014 Yep, I have had waaayyy more fishing crap than I would ever, ever need. In 2009 I had 60 rods, ridiculous just utter nonsense... My wife Griped all the time.... Countless reels, line by the pound... Hundreds of cranks, God only knows how much weight in lead, tungston, hooks, plastics... Massively, completely ridiculous... But I have learned finally to defeat the bait monkey , sort of, I just bought another Glx.. I don't need it.. But, I wanted it.. It's a life long Addiction, truly..lol 1 Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 3, 2014 Super User Posted October 3, 2014 WTH ?!?!?! what kind of question is that ? It's pretty obvious, I'm barely scratching the surface of what I need, who the hell wants a new boat ? I WANT A PRIVATE LAKE ! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 3, 2014 Super User Posted October 3, 2014 I must be all set.  Made my semi annual visit to Bass Pro the other day in Ft. Lauderdale.  Not really in the market for a reel I half heartily perused the saltwater spinning reels, wasn't overly impressed with their inventory.  May have bought a Quantum smoke 30 or 40, but not in stock.  Didn't even look at any rods, I love the ones I'm using now.  The main purpose of stopping in was to buy a waxwing lure and couple dozen hot lips jigs which I use a lot. Yeah, I'm all set. OK Bass Hunter Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 No, just getting started on buying swimbaits. That's a dangerous path to go down. Probably looking at another 3-4 years of buying sporadically. 1 Quote
TBO Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 ive got the essentials. have 4 rigs. 3 spinner 1 bait caster. i have a decent amount and variety of lures. so i could stop purchasing but HELL NO!! i may have a variety but now i need those lures in different colors, plus i love buying fishing gear nothing beats going to bass pro with your favorite fishing buddies and going nuts filling baskets, then going out to try it all! Felixone Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 My answer is both yes and no. Â I am pretty close to being done with buying lures/baits for now. Â I have a decent selection of hard lures. Â I don't really count plastics since they are consumables to me. Â Not unlike gas in your boat. Â There are however a couple holes I might fill out over time, but I think I would be hard pressed to find enough to even spend $50 on, well maybe $100. Â I recently was given a gift certificate, and struggled to spend that. Â Part of the reason is I kayak fish so space is limited. Â The other part is I have spent a lot of money on lures this summer and most of them either haven't seen water, or haven't caught a fish. Â Given this I am sort of holding off on buying more until I learn to use what I have. Â Where I really need to spend some cash is rods and reels. Â I have a couple cheap Walmart combos that are serving me well enough at this stage, but I definitely want to upgrade. Â Before I replace the spinning gear though I want to invest in some baitcasting setups. Â Once those are purchased I will upgrade the spinning gear. Â After that I will be looking to upgrade my kayak, and in a few years perhaps purchase a boat. Â So although I have what I "need" I am sure there will always be more to spend money on. Â At least so far fishing is actually one of the cheaper hobbies I have gotten into. Â I don't even want to think about how much I spent on radio controlled planes. Quote
