Hey BR,

I am in search for universal foam aftermarket knobs to switch out on my reels. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on some? Just hate the feel of stock on almost all reels except for the oversized ci4 spinning reel.

Thanks in advance!

Pop the end cap off one of the knobs. If you find a screw head, you can replace the knobs, and maybe add a bearing or two. If you find a rivet head, you are S.O.L.  Your only option at that point is the buy a new handle that has bearing supported knobs.

Also some of the nuts and screws that hold knobs on have left handed threads. Keep that in mind when removing them so you don't strip the threads.

vinny, it's a bit complicated.

daiwa and shimano both utilize 4mm diameter knob shafts. daiwa shafts are 25.5mm long while shimano shafts are 23mm long. therefore, you can fit shimano knobs onto daiwa handles by adding a 4x7x2.5mm bearing at the bottom of each knob but daiwa knobs will only fit daiwa handles. keep in mind that many of the shimano septon knobs are left or right side-specific.

most of the rest—lews, quantum, abu-garcia, BPS, and pflueger—use 5mm diameter shafts and 5x8x2.5mm ball bearings. knobs between all of these brands are pretty much interchangeable. unfortunately, since there is no such thing as 5x7x2.5 ball bearings, shimano and daiwa knobs cannot be fitted here.

*** concept reels are the only ones i haven't measured yet. i just got my first one (concept A6.6) but i don't have the heart to start disassembling it without even fishing it yet.

what reels are you looking to switch knobs on? sometimes, it just more sense to swap the entire handle out. if you want to do that, they're all interchangeable with each other except shimano with their unique driveshaft size.

I really like the high end soft lews knobs, until I found out from lews that they were 70$ dollars for a new set.

$70 for two knobs?  That's even a high price for the whole handle assembly.  Might as well spend $10 more on a Haqwgtech.

Check out Hedgehog or Hawgtech, also you might find something on ebay.

Call Abu Garcia parts dept and order Eva knobs, if you have a compatible handle. You can get red, black, or gold trimmed (mgxtreme, mgx, premier) for quite cheap. They give you 20% if your order is greater than like $20-30 too.
