Tying Leader To Main Line With Uni Knot...u Trust It?

Recently I started using 20lb braid as my main line and using a flourocarbon leader to my bait. I'm tieing the leader to the braid with a uniknot. I could take more time and tie a swivel in the line excluding the uniknot.

 

I've had some pretty strong fish caught on this setup (the uniknot)...even currently using 30lb mono as leader.

 

I'm wondering if this forum would agree the uniknot can be trusted and is a very good knot.  You have no need for a swivel!

Joining two lines actually requires back to back Uni-Knots. They're a strong knot but not as slim as an Albright. If the diameters are very different the double Uni can be a better choice as I've had Albrights slip if the leader is significantly smaller diameter. This was a stop gap measure though, not a normal rig that I tie.

I swear by my uni-2-uni.  7 wraps on each side is enough.  Usually go 15lb Braid with 6-10lb FC.

 

I have tried the alberto knot and I am slowly building confidence in that knot as well.  Seems to produce a smaller sized knot.  Easier on the guides.

I trust the uni-to-uni, but I trust the modified Albright more!

I tie 15 or 20 lb fluorocarbon leader to 14 lb. Fireline and that knot has lasted for weeks and weeks.  I've used the back to back uni knot because I didn't know how to tie any other knot.  It works ok.  I've got to check out the alberto knot.

Uni-Uni obviously works for many, and is a popular knot, but I won't use it for line-to-leader connections. Alberto/MA is what I use, though I've heard the reverse of that knot (forgot the name) might be better in the higher pound tests. Alberto/MA crushed the Uni-Uni in head-to-head Knot Wars competition (~24% stronger).

I use the uni to uni and never had a problem. Tie it carefully and tighten it slowly, making sure to give a good pull test once it's tightened down.

One of my standard inshore setups is 15- 20# braid with a 20 or 30# leader, used this set up with a swivel for 10 years, seldom tied line to leader.  My swivel knot is an improved clinch on the braid side and an ordinary clinch on the leader.  Had I not had 100% confidence in this set up I wouldn't have used it as long as I did.  As of late I've gotten into the habit of tieing leader to line, the alberto is a wonderful knot, but I have found the bristol knot to be even better for my use.  I will continue with the alberto for my freshwater fishing.  

Find a knot you like and stick with it.  I make very little compromise on this issue, a fresh leader and knot for each outing.

Double uni....has caught many many fish with no problems at all.  I use four wraps on the fluro side and five on the braid side.  And it's quick.  Although that braid from Trilene was not happy with this knot so quit using it.  Power pro and Suffix....all good

the double uni is my go to knot, i do 5 wraps on each side. I have tried the alberto and it is a smaller knot, but its harder for me to tie.

I use the double Uni for leader to main line, hasn't failed me yet. I do 3 wraps each side

Another vote for the alberto/albright knot for tying leader. I've caught plenty of fish using a uni-to-uni, but I have more confidence in the alberto/albright.

 

I too am curious as to why you would tie 30lb mono to 20lb braid.

Why use 20 lb braid to 30 lb mono?

He uses Spinning gear, so I'm guessing for line capacity and\or abrasion resistance.

Short answer: I trust the uni-2-uni knot, with the qualifiers that I never tie it using "mono" nearly as heavy as what you are using, and haven't used it with lines with as varying of a diameter as what you described. Not saying it wouldn't work well, I just cannot personally attest to it.

I tie ten pound braid to 10-15lb mono using back to back uni knots all the time. Works great. I also use it for heavier braid when I feel the  need to add a leader.

Been tying the uni to uni for years useing 20# braid and 12# floro leader.

6 wraps of each. I've had no reason to change.

Second, I trust the uni-to-uni, but I use and trust the Albright/Modified Albright more.
