Super User Montanaro Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 My father has a motorguide bulldog 54# and we recently acquired an older bass tracker with a motorguide tracker 37#. In a slight breeze 3rd is required and a stiff breeze 5th my keep you in one spot...1 is basically off. Is there a way to convert the bulldog to the bow mount? It is long enough, I just haven't had opportunity to look at it. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 I'm sure it's possible, but it might take a considerable amount of work. You need to get it out of the bulldog bracket, which I believe encompasses taking the upper head off. the power wires should come off pretty easily, just be sure to mark them, but if I'm not mistaken you will need to unhook the steering cable for that. I know it can be done, but I don't remember off hand how those disconnect. It could be easy, or it could be a pain in the butt. My best advice is take the head apart and see what it looks like as it could be fairly easy. Also check the shaft diameter and compare it to the old one on the tracker. You don't want to go through the work of getting it out of the old bracket only to find it won't fit in the other one. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 2, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 2, 2014 You might be able to just mount a bracket to the front of the boat to clamp it onto. I had to use a hand control that I spun the head around on my johnboat for awhile. Used a piece of angle iron and drilled a few holes through it to mount to the deck and added a piece of 2X4 to it to clamp the motor onto, worked pretty well. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted October 2, 2014 Super User Posted October 2, 2014 What bluebasser said would work too. Now that I think of it they make the brackets pre-made for if your not as much of a do-it yourself type guy. Quote

You can also get a handle extension or a foot swing arm. I added a 'BigFoot' switch mounted to the deck and the combination was fairly user friendly. Quote
