Super User Crestliner2008 Posted September 30, 2014 Super User Posted September 30, 2014 Getting close to maxing out my account with photos. Can I delete photos from my library, or will doing that affect previous posts? If it does - and I suspect it will - what are my alternatives? Outside of buying more space that is. Thanks! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 I do believe once the photo is deleted from photobucket the picture posted on a forum will cease to exist, the url link no longer exists. An option would be to start another free account with other sites, IMGUR is one and there are others. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 1, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 1, 2014 I figured it would affect the posts that the picture is in, if I delete it, but my question remains, do you think it will affect other posts as well? My reasoning here is that the photos on photobucket are numbered. Consequently if a photo is no longer there, it may affect the sequence of the other photos? I could be way off here. I am prepared to delete some older photos there, but not if it affects ALL my posts. Does that make any sense? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 When you delete the photo, an image appears, in the post, in its place, that says "This image has been deleted/removed" Quote

Super User J Francho Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 PM sent. If anyone wants information regarding an excellent pay service that I've been using for around 10 years, PM me. I can give you a coupon code for 20% off. I think basic subscriptions are $30/year. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 I think what he wants to know if he has 50 pics up, all numbered sequentially, and he takes out the first ten, does number eleven then become number one, thereby messing up every post with pics numbered from 11-50?? I dont know the answer, I could only speculate and say probably not. 1 Quote

No real way to ask that question on photobucket. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 Crest, can you post a picture, so I can look at the path? Let me know the "number" that PB says it is. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 1, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 1, 2014 Great, thanks JF. Here's one from a week or so ago. And here's the link address: http//i146photobucket.com/albums/r251/Crestliner_photos/Rich_2_zps2a091d3d.jpg 1 Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I dont know anything about photobucket but that is a Nice fish!!! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 I'm almost positive photobucket is using unique filenames, not incrementally numbered files, so if you delete one, it should NOT affect the rest of the filenames. Change the album/gallery, or otherwise reorginize them, that may be a different story. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 Each picture should have it's own file location and it should not depend on the numerical order. I'm not 100% certain on this, but being that their site is an image hosting site, it would seem detrimental to their site to make it where if one photo is deleted then they all other file paths are affected. Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 1, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 1, 2014 Thanks a lot guys. Guess there's only one sure way to find out and that's by doing! Will start deleting old photos tomorrow and see what happens. Will let you all know. Again, Thanks for your help! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 2, 2014 Super User Posted October 2, 2014 Try the second to last one, for your first delete, lol. Quote

Can I delete photos from my library, or will doing that affect previous posts? If it does - and I suspect it will - what are my alternatives? Outside of buying more space that is. Thanks! I think I understand what you are asking. I posted an image a few days ago in a thread that I uploaded via photobucket. I then deleted it from my library. Here is what happens anywhere you have posted the image. If you upload for instance, crestliner_PB to your library 2 years ago and post the pics on a forum, and then you then delete that photo at some point and upload another image /w the same file name, crestliner_PB, it won't replace the current image that is on the forums previously. Every file uses a different unique file root on image storage sites. The only alternative you have here is to get a storage device and download all those files to that device or pay for more online storage. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 2, 2014 Super User Posted October 2, 2014 I've deleted pics from an image hosting site, all that happened was the post remained but the picture was gone. In the place of the picture was an image or words to the affect that the image is no longer available. You can buy more space or just create a new free account. I do believe Photobucket will require a different email address for a new account (have 2 myself), or your present email add can be used for many other hosting sites other than Photobucket. Last but not least is the Bass Resource photo gallery. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 2, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 2, 2014 If you delete a photo from your PB library it will not effect subsequent pictures. I've deleted several photos that were duplicates or photos of the same fish and none of my other post with newer pictures were changed. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 2, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2014 In the account I now have, it was showing that I had used up 77% of my allowed space on photobucket. Fine. So far today, I've deleted 5 full pages of older photos and those that are no longer of importance to me. However, after leaving the site and coming back, it's showing that I've STILL got 77% of my allowed storage! So I guess I didn't accomplish anything. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 2, 2014 Super User Posted October 2, 2014 If you haven't already, download the app somewhere: "Get an extra 8GB of storage when you download and use the app! Up to 10GB You'll have 10.0 GB of storage to upload! 2GB initial + an extra 8GB when you download the app!" Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 2, 2014 Super User Posted October 2, 2014 You could always use bassresource as your image host. Glenn lets you store a 100 phoots per album. Photos do get a watermark on the bottom right corner. 1 Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 just use a 2nd email and create a new photobucket account as sirsnookalot suggests. there is absolutely no need to spend money on this...and as answered already, deleting some photos are not gonna affect other photos and where they are linked. 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 3, 2014 FYI: Response from Photobucket: " On the old Photobucket site, we compressed your images to save space, but this greatly hurt image quality. After asking users for feedback, we learned most people preferred that we keep their originals instead of having unlimited storage. To make this possible, we had to offset the cost of with the new Plus subscription/storage plans. On the new site, you have been uploading images in their original quality and you've ran out of storage. On the old site, we would compress a 7 megabyte photo to 1 megabyte. This saves space, but you can notice the difference. Today, if you upload a 7 megabyte photo, we keep the original file. It looks much clearer, especially if you want to print the image. I'm making an assumption that you've deleted old images? Those images were not taking up as much space compared to your new images, so the percentage of storage-used in your account hasn't changed much. So.....I guess for the "better good" I have to suck it up and find another online storage base. Many good suggestions here, which I highly appreciate guys! I do not have another email address, so I guess I've got to search online for another "freebee". Born a cheapskate....always a cheapskate. LOL! THANKS guys for your help & suggestions. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 4, 2014 Super User Posted October 4, 2014 First off uploading pictures using 6 megapixels and more isn't needed for on line viewing, the higher mp is useful for making printed enlargements over 8x10". There are options, setting your camera to snap photos with fewer mp or once uploaded in the original format reduce them in size, which is what I have done. Whether using Comcast email, Windows, G-mail, Yahoo and others, to my knowledge they all allow several email accounts, some as many as 7. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 4, 2014 Super User Posted October 4, 2014 That depends on your purpose. I have over 10k files stored on my hosting service, all full res. if I need prints, or want to go back, they're all there, backed up, and secure. Quote
