Hey Everyone,

I have a 16 Ft. smoker craft and right now it gets the job done but an upgrade is going to happen,

but for now I am just looking to upgrade my fish finder to a Lowrance Elite 5 chirp which has some

great built in features. What would I need to do the upgrade? I figure I will run it off the trolling

motor so I can look at it and my fishing parent will still be able to see depth and some structure off

of the fish finderI have right now by the drivers console. Any help would be great as well as prices

so I have a general idea of what it will cost me. I will be doing the install.

Thanks,

J

I'm not sure about Lowrance, but Humminbird comes with everything needed for a basic transom install, not a trolling motor install. The first thing I would look into is, if you need a different transduce,r or if yours can be adapted for the trolling motor, Second, I would look into Transducer Shield and Saver for a mounting bracket that connects the transducer to the motor. They make high quality brackets that help prevent damage to the transducer if you were to hit a hard object with the motor. There are install videos on youtube on how to connect everything. You'll want to connect the power cord to the starting battery, not the trolling motor battery and put a 3 amp fuse in line on the + side close to the battery.

Thanks I am looking to purchase a new transducer so I was expecting a cost with that but it sounds like I will only have to purchase

-The unit

-Transducer

-Power cable

Anything else?

If you need help with the install once you get everything post your questions here. There are a number of us who have installed our own equipment. As far as other stuff you'll need to purchase, most can be got at Home Depot. Wire ties, heat shrink connectors, a butane torch to heat the connectors, a fuse holder and fuse, maybe some miscellaneous items.

The Lowrance will come with everything needed except the trolling motor adapter for your transducer. ($16.00 if I remember correctly) If you want a transducer made specifically for the tm you'd have to buy that separate and it might be easier to buy the locator without the transom transducer so you don't buy something you don't need.
