zildjian Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I picked up my humminbird back in December of 2012. I never did any software updates yet. Is anyone familiar with the steps I need to take to get the latest update for my unit, and is the newer updates really worth downloading? Thanks, -zildjian Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 29, 2014 Super User Posted September 29, 2014 I am VERY familiar with the procedure--done it dozens of times ( updates and downdates). It depends on which unit you have and why you want to. There are downsides for some units that you may not want. Induced "glitches" that have not been resolved yet. It may be a case of "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it" Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 29, 2014 Super User Posted September 29, 2014 One more thing, it also depends on the software version your unit has now. Quote
zildjian Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks wayne, I have the 1198c SI Combo. I'll check when I get home for work what software I have as of now, but I never updated since I bought it back in 2012. I just figured any updates would be good from almost two years ago. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 29, 2014 Super User Posted September 29, 2014 I have all the software versions for the 1198 in a file. I got one of the first ones that went to retailers when they were put on the market. The current version is 7.090 Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 wayne or customer service can verify this but i'd say the biggest thing is don't lose power while installing the update or you'll have to send the unit back to Humminbird. Quote

That is true and the charge to fix it is the flat rate repair fee.. The procedure is to start the unit up fully in Normal or Simulator, and do a Default setting. Then put the memory card in one of the card readers, answer the first question YES and the second quesion NO. Wait for the update to load and the unit will re-start. Remove the memory card. Then do Default setting. Quote
