Felixone Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Calling all SC anglers... Where is your top producing public fishing spot in SC? I have been getting skunked way more than I care to lately, and I was curious where everyone else in this state goes to fish. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 29, 2014 Super User Posted September 29, 2014 i likely won't have much to offer, but was wondering if you had a more specific area of SC? more towards the beach area or the mountain region or in between? Quote
Felixone Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 I am looking more for the central/midlands area, but I have no issue traveling a bit if I know I am going to a good spot. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 1, 2014 Super User Posted October 1, 2014 well i for one really want to hit santee cooper... that's on my list. my fishing buddy lives in charlotte so i think that may be a springtime halfway camp/fish spot. everyone i know fishes there for catfish, but i'd like to target some bass down there myself. i've also heard some good things about lake robinson in greer. Felixone Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 I haven't really heard anything about Lake Robinson, but I did read a recent report on Santee that said the bass bite was down. I know a lot of tournaments are held on that lake though so who am I to say. One thing I really like about Santee is I can easily rent a boat there so I could get around a lot easier than on the kayak. Since the chain is so large mobility would be a huge benefit. I am probably going to do a day trip over there in the spring around pre-spawn. Now I need to take a look at Lake Robinson... Quote
Clemson_Terry22 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I've always had pretty good luck in Lake Keowee and Hartwell buddy and I really got on them two weeks ago on a spinner bait...hope this helps some. Quote
riverbasser13 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I've heard Jocassee can be pretty epic when you can find 'em. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 Felix, from my experience Murray is a hit or miss type of lake. Haven't been to Santee on years so can't help ya there. Lately I've not been fishing much. Quote
Felixone Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Felix, from my experience Murray is a hit or miss type of lake. Haven't been to Santee on years so can't help ya there. Lately I've not been fishing much. Thanks for the response Retired. I have been out to Murray twice now, and I can see what you mean. I think I need to try a couple other places to put in. That lake is really too large for a kayak as far as I am concerned. The area near the ramp I was putting in at didn't have much. There is a creek/marshy area at the back that looks like it has a bunch of beds where bass have previously spawned. I am hoping the area will be much better in spring. Since I don't deal too well with cold I will probably alternate between the two to three spots I have been fishing for the next few weeks. Once spring spawning season comes are around I will probably start hitting up new spots. At least this way I will have something (researching new spots) to keep me occupied over the winter. Quote
macfish Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Don't know how much this will help but I live on Wyboo Creek which is on Lake Marion. I fish here and Taw Caw a lot and can tell you that ther ARE a lot of tournaments her and it tends to get hammered in the spring, That said there are a lot of big bass here. You may have a significant advantage with a kayak since you can probably access more secluded backwater areas than the big boat guys. I have had mixed results, kind of feast or famine, but even small tourneys (which I don't fish)will have someone bring in a 30lb bag! Since I've only been here for 3 years I can't tell you if it's trending up or down, but most seem to think it's getting better. The upper 1/3 of the lake has much more cover and is more protected than the areas below Route 95. Try any of the landings from stump hole up. Good luck and don't be surprised when you see how crazy the folks are here for the catfishing. Quote
Matthew2000 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 If your fishing Murray go to the tourny launch. Go under the bridge and work the docks, always fish white and sexy shad on Murray. Quote
upstateSCbassin Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Robinson is pretty nice especially for a yak! Quote
