cmoberly Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 I'm looking for medium/medium or medium heavy rods that are 6'6"-7'. preferably around 70-100 dollars Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted September 27, 2014 Super User Posted September 27, 2014 I'd recommend a Medium or Meadium-Heavy, fast action rod that feels good in your hands. I own Abu Garcia, BPS, St. Croix, Fenwick, and *** rods. I like them all for different reasons, so I'd have to say, IMO, a rod's feel is very subjective. I'll add that BPS rods offer a lot of bang for the buck. 1 Quote
fisherrw Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Abu Garcia veritas or shimano compre. Quote
Cgrinder Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 *** *** Black if the reel seat does not bother you. I've compared my 7'1" MH *** to an Abu Veracity, a Dobyns Savvy, and a Shimano Crucial. The *** compares favorably to each one in my experience. It's hard to argue with them for the price. 3 Quote
LunkerFisher Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Another $100 casting rod thread? Another vote for the veritas here! 1 Quote
GoDeep Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Go with the Crucial or the ***. Love my Crucials though. Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 28, 2014 Super User Posted September 28, 2014 Bought a Veritas Gen 1 on clearance and when checking out the cashier dropped it and chipped the tip guide. It was the last 7'0 med they had and on clearance so I took a chance and contacted Abu. They said to email pix and a few days later a brand new 2.0 was sitting on my porch. One of the best rods I've used at any price and action is more like medium vs Gen 1's. They retail for around $100.00 but watch ebay as the Gen 1's were available for $79.99 so I'm gonna assume these will be soon also. Absolutely love it. Quote

The cashier should have been more careful granted, but if that damaged a guide it would have probably done the same thing first time a swivel or weight was wound into it accidently. ABU did good by you replacing the whole rod when a $2 tip top would have sufficed. If you still have the old one put a new tip on and use it. 1 Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 BPS Carbonlite is alway's my vote. Also look into ***'s and the new gen 2 Veritas. I have the gen 1 7' H as a frog rod and no issues with it Quote

Not sure reeling up a weight (which I do not do) or a swivel (which I do not use) would have the same shock or impact that dropping a rod 4 feet onto a hard floor would but I could be wrong. Abu went above and beyond. The tip was replaced and the rod was given to my son as I have too many already. 1 Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 New abu Garcia veritas 2.0. I have the gen 1 model, it had a couple problems but I see abu addressed that. However, sportsmans warehouse redding ca had abu villains on sale for $90. Now that's a nice rod! My brother picked one up and I highly reccomended it. Don't know if u can find one at that price though.. 1 Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted September 30, 2014 Super User Posted September 30, 2014 Duckett Ghost, or the Veritas. The *** *** isn't bad either, nor the BPS Extreme. 1 Quote
timsford Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Id get a *** *** black if i was looking at a new 100 rod. I dont think there is a more sensitive rod for the price out there. That being said i really like my shimano clarus and the old style is on clearance for cheaper right now at tackle warehouse and a lot of other places. There are a lot of good rods in the 100 dollar range id advise going to a store and handling them with your reel if possible to see what balances the best and feels right for you Quote
Krappiehog Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I have most of the rods folks have listed here... My 13 is very nice, but my go to rods have become duckett ghost hands down!I am not sponcered by and have no affiliation to them..... I love, love love them! I really got interested after watching Bassresource video's.... LolThey are light well made, and uber sensitive! Like nothing I have felt!I will say this Abu makes a nice rod, they are great if you have a problem, one of the best companies I have ever delt with, one reaso why I have 4 Abu reels!Duckett is no slouch, week ago I broke a rod, had 6 mo or so.... So out to garage to get receipt when I realized it was a heat transfer and was black and could not read! Said well stupid time to buy a new rod, but I called them, spoke to William in warranty, said no prob, gave me instructions and 20 bucks latter I have a rod shipping to me! Hey guys I know some get all bent, but here was the bottom line, they will warranty I had to cut out the section of the rod with logo and specs.... Send it and ck form 20 for s&h.... 20 or 100 for a new rod... Let me think, not rich so 20 sounds good!Folks I stick close to those that take care of me, treat me right and I in turn spread the word about how easy they are to work with, and how great they are! I love Shamino reels, have a crutal rod, no probs, all my spinning reels are shimano's. Bait casters are abu and Shimano. Best there is, I put duckett in the same category.Let's face it stuff is gonna break, and when it does I want folks that stand behind what they say!Duckett's are my favorite rods, actions are great, tips soft and allow for great feeling and castablity. My 6'8" mh is my or has been my go to rod as I only have 3 duckett's, and if possible that's the rods I fish for casting... Once I get all casting rods bought I will get a spinning.. Well maybe, I have spinning rods by 13/ ***, love it, very similar to duckett's in weight and feel... Abu vetaris also nice but is stiffer with less tip then duckett's or 13 in same weights... Still lite rod.I hope this helps... Quote

They don't play! They just back it up results! One of the best companies I have ever seen! I will always buy abu, or at least till change there policy of understanding and putting customers first!
