zildjian Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Hey, Thinking about picking up a lake map chip for my humminbird 1198 unit. I'm not sure which brand to go with between these two company's for strictly lake fishing in Pa. I fish a club lake and I didn't see it on the Navionics full list of Pa Lakes. I was wondering if it's possible to somehow map it myself with sonor? Also, I can't seem to find a full list of Pa Lakes for the Lakemaster chips. If Lakemaster has my lake I fish already on it, I would just pick that up. Any thoughts? Thanks, -zildjian Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 27, 2014 Super User Posted September 27, 2014 Lakemaster has NO coverage in the East and Northeast. Navionics Sonar Charts can be used to create HD contour mapping where there is none. You can view the current Navionics maps on their web site's Web App. I covered the Auto Charts in your other post. 1 Quote

Super User tomustang Posted September 27, 2014 Super User Posted September 27, 2014 Pa is one of the few states with a lack of mapping. I know with certain lowrance units you can map yourself but I don't know what the requirements are 1 Quote

I fish PA lakes as well and there is no good maps for around here. I just purchased a new Lowrance Gen 2 Touch with the ability to "create" HD contour mapping and I am hoping this works somewhat well. I figure a good day driving around a lake should be able to capture enough points for a reasonable contour map to be generated. Let's hope this works, because there is no other real option for us PA anglers! 1 Quote
jcoholich Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Navionics as far as I know has the best maps for pay but if there is a lake you want you cam record sonar logs upload it into their website driver and with in a week you can update your chart chip and either the lake will update using your logs or if there are no depths it will show the depths for the area you recorded and up loaded in there sonarcharts data view Quote

The Navionics Nautical Charts are not altered with contour lines from user generated logs. Sometimes the zero line is changed if the shoreline is not accurate and some of your recorded tracks/trails are shown on land. Quote
