I am heading out today for an 11 day vacation to Maine. I will be spending almost every single day bass fishing. Should be interesting to see how the bite changes over the course of 11 days. I hopefully will be able to get out fishing with as many friends and family as I can.  As I am a goal oriented kind of fisherman I am going to set a few for myself. Put at least 3 different people on the biggest bass they have caught. Catch at least 10 bass over 5 lbs including the 50th over 5 for the year. Catch 250 bass in 11 days. Land at least 2 over 7 lbs. Catch a few lunkers on big swim baits. Find some new big fish spots. Catch a personal best. The forecast for the week looks very favorable. First day on the water will be tomorrow. Hopefully will locate some big fish for when Shane comes to town sat and sun. I do realize some of the goals are pretty lofty but you got to aim high. Go big or go home.

Today was first day of vacation. I got into the lake at about 830 am. The water temperature was a chilly 59 degrees. The water is extremely low. Some of the lowest I have ever seen. The first bite of the day was a 4 lb 14 oz on a weightless worm. Then next 4 fish I caught were dinkers. Once I got out onto the Main lake it was already feeling pretty warm. The lake was very calm and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.  I decided to locate some fish for when shame comes and fishes the next couple days. The first few spots I check were holding fish. At the first spot I checked a monster monster bass broke my line. That was very sad biggest fish I had on all day. After catching some fish I decided to try and find some brand new spots. It was such a beautiful  and calm day. A perfect day for going around the lake. I found 3 brand new off shore spots. I caught fish off of all of them. One spot in particular I liked a lot, caught a 5-7,4-13, and a 3-4 off of it as well as a couple more smaller fish. The fishing for the day was ok. It was kind of a grind but the weather was amazing. I got a bit of a sunburn. Landed 15 largemouth for the day and 2 smallies. Of the 15 largemouth 7 of them were greater then 3 lbs weighing in at 5-7, 4-14, 4-13, 4-4, 3-4, 3-3, 3-2. Sadly I lost the biggest fish I hooked for the day. Hopefully Shane and I will have some luck the next couple days.

Today was day # 2 of the Maine bass fishing vacation. I met up with Shane J this morning. The plan was to fish a lake that is new to me. I had fished it twice before today. I decided to bring Shane there because I figured if the two of us couldn't get a good idea of what was happening then nobody could. The weather for the day was not ideal for bass fishing at all. It was very sunny with not a single cloud in the sky. There was no wind to speak of. Water temperature in the morning was 61 and warmed all the way up to 71. Todays daytime high was in the lower 80s which is crazy for the end of Sept. We got some good bites in the morning but after that it was an extremely tough day. When we went hours with out a bass in the boat. It was just an all around tough day. The good fish we caught was off of offshore structure. For the day between Shane and I we caught 12 -15 bass and a whole lot of pickerel. We did land some good fish.

Went fishing today with Shane. The surface temperature was 61 when we started and warmed up through out the day. There was no wind and not a cloud in the sky. The bite was pretty tough. You just had to grind out it. Today a jig with a rage craw produced most of the fish. We targeted isolated offshore structure most of the day. We did get a couple very shallow bites towards the end of the day. Today Shane and I caught a total of 20 bass. Our biggest 5 were 4-12, 4-10, 3-12,3-8, and a 2-15. It felt more like summer then fall today. Supposed to be overcast tomorrow, looking forward to that. Hopefully the bite will be better.

This is one dedicated cat. There will be plenty more pics. Nice thread idea, too, man.

Had a bit of a later start today. Got on the water at 9 am. The water temperature was already 63 degrees. It was calm an sunny. The fish seemed very active in the morning. I could see them shallow and they were all over whatever I threw. In the first hour and a half I had already caught 7 bass. Then it clouded up and the wind blew. The bite shut down. I got to my favorite off shore spots around 1130 when the water temperature was 68 degrees. The front came through about 1230. The wind picked up 5-10 out of the east. The fishing was  slow but consistent. I had a 5 lb class spit my jig on a long cast and that was sad. The bite was slow mid day and the water temperature dropped quickly once the wind picked up and the front moved in.  I landed 15 largemouth and 3 smallmouth for the day mostly on a jig with a rage craw trailer.  Biggest 5 fish for the day were 2-13,2-15,3-3, 4-13, 5-10. The 5-10 was very skinny.

Let me know how you do.

Water temperature today was 64 degrees when I got on the lake at 1230. It was overcast and the wind was blowing out of the east. I had to wait for my buddy. I hadn't fished with him in years. The bite wasn't very good. It was kind of slow. Couldn't get any kind of pattern going. We saw some big 3-5 lb fish cruising but couldn't get any to bite. I landed 9 largemouth and 3 smallmouth. Nothing to speak of. Got most of my fish on a weightless worm.

Got on the water a bit earlier today. I was on the lake at 730 am. It was windy and overcast. Water temperature was 62 degrees. My first bite of the day was a 3 lb 12 oz largemouth. Caught another small fish after that then it was pretty slow for awhile. The wind picked up 10-20 out of the east as the front was passing through. With the strong cold wind from the east the water temperature cooled down  to 61 degrees. After the front had passed the sun came out and felt very nice. The wind stopped for awhile around noon and the water temperature jumped up to 64 degrees. During this time I had the best bite of the day. The fish were very scattered. I caught them on off shore weed beds and other isolated off shore structure. I fished until dark landing 12 largemouth. At the end of the day the wind picked up again out of the east 10-15 mph. Biggest 5 fish for the day were 6-8, 5-2, 5-2, 3-12 and 3-10 for a total of 24 -2. Pretty good day considering the conditions with the east wind.

Here is the first 5-2 I caught for the day. This fish has special significance to me. It is the 50th bass over 5 lbs I have caught for the year. When I caught this fish it was still pretty cold out. I was wearing my winter jacket.

Caught this 6 lb 8 oz bass around noon.

Landed this 5 lb 2 oz bass later in the afternoon. Not the healthiest fish in the world.

I like to fish southern and western Maine. Central Maine has some amazing bass fishing an is noted for it. The first 7 lber I ever caught was from Unity Pond. I fished Unity Pond a lot while I was attending Unity College. There also are a lot of quality fish at Plymouth Pond.
