lectricbassman Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Anyone know where I can find a heddon zara pooch or something very similar? The ponds that I fish are heavily pressured and i found that walking a pooch is very effective right now. My theory is that these fish have never seen one before. From what Ive found the pooch is an older lure (maybe even collectable to some.) I had 2 before tonight, lost one after a fish wrapped me around a stump. Now Im down to one and i hesitate to even use it for fear of losing it. Long story short, whats the smallest cigar type bait that you know of on the market right now. Quote
RSM789 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The Zara puppy's are available at BPS. They are 3" long & weigh 1/4 oz., I'm not sure how close that is to the pooches size. Quote
dead end canal Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Creme Lures sells a walking bait that's @ 2¾" long. I haven't used one, so I can't say how well it works. Quote
greentrout Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Years ago I got into ultra-light fishing for the bass. A new experience with four pound test and a two pound bass on your line. I used the Pooch and Teeny Torpedo but gave 'em up because the bass too many times took the lure that went deep and sometimes into the gills. No desire to ever go back... Old school basser... Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 25, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 25, 2014 Lots of the Zara Pooch on Ebay. The Lucky Craft Sammy comes in a tiny size. The Rebel Frog-R is a thicker bait but still a really small profile. Quote
lectricbassman Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I think im going to try the creme lures. I have never heard of them before now. And thanks for the heads up g trout, im using ultralight tackle with 6lb test and its a blast. Luckily i havent had any problems yet with fish swallowing the lure but it has crossed my mind. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Try Power Pro 8# braid. 1# mono diameter. Awesome line on my ultralight. Quote
primetime Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Sebile makes a small Stickk Shad, little fatter but small....you can also walk a 3-4" senko on the surface. Light wire hook helps, heavier than normal mono leade may help, rig it with the nose up and if you like stealth and need a swivel, the invisiswivels are made of fluorocarbon and work great. A small walleye slip float, or pill float in front helps, or Bett's makes a floating bullet weight that helps keep the lure on the surface without having to go quickly, and any elaztach bait floats easily.
