wisconsin heat Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I have a baitcasting reel that is rated for 145 yards of 12lb diameter. I want to spool 40lb suffix 832 which has a 10lb diameter. I have a 150 yd spool, so should I spool the entire thing or leave some off? having 10 or 20 yards of braid leftover is kind of useless, but if spooling to near the maximum will compromise performance I would like to avoid that. Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 Use the entire spool plus put a piece of tape around the spool first so the braid won't slip. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 Tie a 1/2 oz jig or sinker to your old line and cast it out in your yard as far as you can. Release line as you walk to your jig. When you reach the jig cut your line and connect the braid to what is now your backing. You will still have plenty of braid for another reel or replacement. 2 Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 I would use no more than 75 yards of the braid and the appropriate amount of backing so that I could fill the reel at least twice. If it was going to be used primarily for pitching/flipping I would use no more than 50 yards of braid and the appropriate backing so that I could fill the reel three times. 2 Quote
