Cornel Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Hi all I finally finished building my second rod. Have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think It all started with this (about 3 months ago): Finished handle... ...and a couple of rings with no particular purpose other than the fact that titanium looks cool And that's how it looks now with only this to be mounted: butt cap (machined titanium, of course ) Here's a close up of the guide wrap and a couple of pictures of the butt wraps Unfortunately, it's extremely difficult to take a clear picture of a 7.6' long object... I'll try some more and post it if I can get a clear one... Thanks for looking and feel free to comment C. Quote
BassChaser57 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I have never built a rod but yours looks GREAT!!! Congratulations on a job well done. Now all that is left is to show us the bass photos caught on that new rod. WAY TO GO!!! 8-) Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 WOW!!! That looks great. Where did you get the butt cap and did you do the weaving? Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Cornel, Should be a great CB rod. How long did it take on the weaves.. I would give it a 10 Up! Tight Wraps!!! Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 16, 2007 Super User Posted February 16, 2007 Fancy wrapping there Cornel, meticulous work and some real craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing the pics. Ronnie Quote
Cornel Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 Thanks everybody I made them both (well, sort of... ) The weaving was done by me using a home made version of Wonder Weaver, Gudebrod NCP size C (black) and Sulky metallic (gold). The butt cap was also done by me out of a solid piece of titanium on a manual lathe. The engraving was done by a very good friend of mine on a CNC mill. REELMECH, Over all, I estimate I put close to 100H in this rod, spread over 3 months. It took me probably more than half of this time to finish the weaves. The rest was spent in the machine shop, wrapping guides, making the tools I needed (I didn't buy any tool whatsoever, everything I used was home made or in my friends shop ;D) C. Quote
rosewalt Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 VERY VERY NICE Just think at minimum wage you would have to get about $6,000.00 to break even. However I'm sure to you its priceless. Now get to work on #3 Quote
BORDERBASSER Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 My hat goes off to you. That is FANTASTIC workmanship. I can't believe someone could do those kinda weaves on his second rod. Your work and talent far exceeds your experience. That is the kinda work I would expect to see from someone with much more experience. TJ Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 18, 2007 Super User Posted February 18, 2007 To say that you did an incredible job would be an understatement! I'm just not sure what the next adjective is. ...lol I would be afraid to fish a rod that I had over 100 hours in. (It would be the one I stepped on!) Truely inspiring!! Quote
stroz Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 WOW thats some sweet work way to go!!!!!!! Stroz Quote

Cornel Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 Thanks again everybody, I took the rod for a test drive this past weekend and it behaved nicely 8-) Oh, I almost forgot... Special thanks go to ReelMech. His stickies in this section were pretty much the most useful pieces of information I could find on rod building... Cheers C. Quote
