I went to bass pro shops and picked the veritas 2.0 ( 7ft M ) up for $100 on september 7th and so far so good. I went on 4 fishing trips since then and caught fish everytime. Compared to the old veritas  its a completely different rod in a good way, but just this evening my buddy broke his veritas ( older version)  and said that " im next " and he said he's read reviews that said people already started breaking the veritas 2.0s . and im completely baffled but when i looked for reviews i saw no such thing, either hes being ignorant or theres someone on bass resource that can educate me. I know we all hate breaking gear : /

I have seen reviews on every popular rod in the last 10 years breaking on hooksets and "for no reason".

There's always a reason.

Treat your gear right, it will treat you right.

If not- I've heard good things about Abu CS. So I wouldn't worry too much.

The 2.0 Veritas is supposed to be a different animal - designed to be stronger and with actions more true to their stated ratings (i.e. a "M" that acts like a "M" instead of a "M" that acts like a "MH" . One of the quickest ways to break a rod is high sticking on a hookset ...I'll let others chime in on this aspect of breaking a rod - but it is the #1 reason for rod breakage in my book !

I have three Veritas rods I have been fishing since they came out.  I like them all.  I did break a Loomis IMX a few weeks back though. Replacement on that is going to run $100 through the warranty program.

At the $100 price point, you could be buying a Fenwick HMG that comes with a lifetime warranty.  In my experience you can spend more, but I doubt you will do any better than with Fenwick.  I did break a Fenwick once and I had a new rod free of any charge in my hand withing two weeks.

Any rod will break if you don't take care of it. I had a buddy who would go out and buy St. Croix or Gloomis rod's and would throw them in the back of his truck and let them slide around and get dinged up or would grab the end of the rod and try to bend it in so he could get a fish from cover. Then when the rod would break after a couple month's of abuse he would down the rod company. I have Carbonlites, Veritas and ***'s and I have never had a rod break. But then again I treat all my rod's with the utmost care. Even my Berkley Lightning shock rod. All my rod's are gently put in the bed of the truck gently pulled out and I always carry them just above the reel where the rod has more backbone. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you.

I have a friend who swore the veritas was crap because he broke them on hooksets.  Went through two of them ... Then he changed up and broke the other model too.  In contrast I have broken two rods so far in 3 years ... One was because I fell on it coming out of a canoe  :laugh5:  and the other was because I inadvertently closed a door with a rod tip on the other side.   :laugh5:

Treat your stuff right and it shouldn't break on you.  Not saying there aren't defective ones from time to time but IMO they are more exceptions than the rule.

I was one of the people who broke two veritas rods when they first came out on the first day of owning them...they were both replaced though so no worries and i since sold them.  I did just pick up another one of the older versions on sale the other day and have fished it twice with no issues.

it doesn't take much to put a week spot on a graphite rod.  Fishing from a kayak is inherently a little rougher on gear i believe so i try and keep the banging around to a minimum to prevent any potential issues.  I am convinced that breakage of rods is just part of the game and everyone will do it eventually via one or more ways :)

All rods from all brands break... That's just the trade off or maybe risk/reward we have to take in order to have light, sensitive rods.  I would just shop for brands with good exchange/warranty policies and take great care of the brands you do choose to invest in.  I don't own one, but the BPS carbonlites have a "no questions asked" exchange policy for broken rods.  I consider that a pretty good policy!!

I don't think I have ever broken a rod on a hook set. I have broken a bunch on snags and trying to rip it out. Stupid on my part! I have even gone to the hospital twice with a crankbait buried to the top of the bend in my belly through this foolishness. There was a lot of laughter in the OR that day. I think I have finally learned my lesson.

I have never broken a rod while fishing...now ive fallen on one, shut one in a door, and ran one into a ceiling fan lol

95% of broken rods are operator error

I slightly disagree. There are Rods that we have all heard of that routinely break much more often, for a multitude of reasons, than other brands.. I have broke 2 blanks in 30 years.. I have had other things as a reel seat issue, as well as guide issues ... 95% operator error is giving the China Rod manufactors a free pass... I guess I have been privileged to see the ones that are continually returned and replaced ... They are both ( brands ) white rods...

Veritas are all I use. Almost. Got a gen one 7.0 med. at Dick's for $69.99 on clearance plus 30% off of that. During checkout, the cashier dropped it and the tip guide chipped. He offered to refund my money but I really wanted this rod, especially at that price. I emailed Abu and they said to take a picture of the rod, and mail a copy of the receipt. To my surprise, They shipped me a version 2.0 medium, which is much more like a medium. I absolutely love it and you cannot beat that kind of customer service. I think they have a 3 year warranty. In the several years I've owned them, never had one break.

So true ^^

A lot of guys claim they "take good care of their equipment" but then you look at where they store their stuff, you see rods clumped together against the wall, with spider webs, and hooks hanging in the guides rather than on a hook keeper. Or they toss them, bang them against the boat, wall, well anything really. Makes you question what they think taking care of your equipment means. There was a review of a rod on youtube warning people to not use it because it broke on a hook set. A quick look at his equipment in the background tells you all you need to know about how he "takes care of his equipment" lol.

There are rods that get nicked and will break at the weak spot, we all know this and it happens, but when one person continues to break rods then that person either has the worst luck or it is user error. I probably said this before, but I have a friend that was breaking high end rod like they were going out of style, he complained and with some luck another friend went with him and got to video his rod breaking, every rod broke the exact same way, he got a solid 4lb fish and he tried to just lift it over the side of the boat using a standard MH rod while holding it by the handle and the area of the fore grip. I also witnessed a guy break a rod while using a net and he insist nothing he did was wrong, but when you watched it he held the rod at the 1 o'clock position while it was under load, he nets the fish but instead of lifting the net to take pressure off the rod he lifts both the net and the rod so the rod is still under load in the same position and then with the rod still under load he moves the net toward his body and the tip snapped. To visualize this, if the rod tip didn't snap, the tip top of the rod would have been facing the 4th guide, it did get to the point of it being straight down and held but it was that extra 2 or 3 degrees that did the rod in but the problem is the guy it happened to saw the video and still can't understand why it broke, he believed it to be a defect when he was committing a classic error, the "high stick" and I believe most of rod breakage problems are caused by some user error. How do you know if it is error or a true breakage problem? Well take the Kistler Helium LTA and the 1st generation Dobyns rods, Kistler built a good name and was selling a lot of rods but he decided to use a new source for his blanks that cost less, it didn't take long before the phone was ringing off the hook with guys who had broken rods, same story with the Dobyns, so a couple broken rod reports I take with a grain of salt, if I see more than 5 on one site in a short amount of time then you know there is a problem.

I'm glad they fixed that stupid reel seat. I got the 7 ft medium spinning (old model) and the reel was always coming loose. Anyways I ended up breaking the rod hopefully I can send it in and get the new model with the ratcheting reel seat. :)

I was sent 2 of the 7ft mh and they are way more in line with their rating than the old version. I used the old one as a frog rod because it was sooooooo stiff. The new ones are much more versatile
