noob150 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I bought some buckeye spot remover jigs and some z-man worms. I tried for about 20 minutes to rig it shaky but I couldn't get the worm to screw in. I tried to cut the end flat but that still didn't work. Any tips on how or why I am having trouble. Thanks. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 23, 2014 Super User Posted September 23, 2014 Stick the hook point into the worm head about 1/4" , pull it out, and screw the spring into the "wound" 2 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted September 23, 2014 Super User Posted September 23, 2014 Stick the hook point into the worm head about 1/4" , pull it out, and screw the spring into the "wound" +1 ... It's the only method that will work with elastotech (Z-Man) plastic worm material . Quote
noob150 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Ok I will give that a shot. I will report back Quote
JeziHogg Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Just use a lighter to heat up the screw lock. Quote
Heron Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Get a different brand worm.....That Zman elaztech stuff is whats causing your difficulty. Quote
kikstand454 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Just use a lighter to heat up the screw lock. This. And the elaztech finesse worms could not possibly be better suited for the job of shakey head lure. They stand up perfectly straight and last most of the day- even if bluegill are assaulting your lure. Great choice. If they were more available in my area- its all I would use. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 That elaztec doesn't work well with screw locks and you have to make a hole with the hook point in order for it to go on. Quote
ez4u2say01 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 You are using the wrong shakey head for this type of worm. These worms are made of elaztech which can easily last through several more fish than conventional worms. They are tough and the tails float up perfectly. Use the type of shaky head as pictured. Rig weedless and hold on! p.s. whatever you do, don't put any of these worms with other soft plastics keep them in the original package because they melt if they come into contact with any other style of plastic. I learned the hardway. 1 Quote
noob150 Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 I tried the pinhole but it is still a pain in the ass. I will try the lighter trick. If not they are going back. I tried a Zoom Trick worm and had now problem screwing it in. So they really melt when they come in contact with other plastic worms?? Quote

Try the lighter trick before you give up on them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 24, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 24, 2014 Even if you can't get them on a shakyhead they're still great on a split shot, C rig, light T rig, or drop shot. 1 Quote

I learned the hardway. IME this is my advice as well. Use a jighead like the one pictured and rig it weedless. The spot removers are alright, but honestly they just didn't work for me. They seemed to hang up more often and I'm not a fan of the screw lock keepers. The "stand up" up feature of the head is rendered useless by the elaztech baits- because they stand up no matter what head you put them on. Jmho Ymmv Oh and yes ...... keep all elaztech lures seprate from the general population. They do NOT play well together. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I'm working on a solution to this with a spring style head. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 I use a lighter. Quote
noob150 Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Bought a pack o Roboworms and it took me about 2 minutes to rig it up. I will save the Z-Worms for wacky and texas rigs. Quote
