The best swim jig on the market. Paired with roboworm ez shad.

May pick some up. How many fish does one EZ shad last as a trailer before tearing up?

Posted

I like em.

My standard swim jig trailers are Keitech FAT 3.8, and 5" Mr. Twister Fat curly grubs.

What rod you use? I'm thinking like a 7'+ H rod with ratings of like 1/4 - 1 & 1/2 oz...

Good guess -  7' rod, although Its listed as a MH, but the lure weight ranges from 1/4 - 1.5oz

I think if they want to ban any language use on this site it should be the word "Best".  Your idea and my idea of best are probably very different and even if we agree, there will be 100 others that don't.

I assure you that I have used as many different brands of swim jigs as most people and made many of my own, the one thing I have found to be consistant is  that the good ones all have a lot  in common.  Dirty Jigs are a very good brand as are a lot of others.

True, it is highly subjective, and should always be taken with a grain of salt.  But of course, it is that sort of subjectiveness that keeps the bass fishing industry as large as it is.

There are several other jigs offered at a price that is lower and once can argue that the quality and durability are better. The dirt jigs California style heads use rubber band colors which over time just won't last as long as a wire tire. Do I still own various Dirty Jigs swimjigs? Answer is yes but mostly to locate some "Cool" colors as I am a bit of jig junkie and a sucker for wicked cool color combos. Now what are the others that are close that are less expensive and feature essentially the same head design? Check out Northstar's flip and swim jig and Sieberts Tournament swim jigs. Both are about a $100 cheaper per jig and both are Site sponsors who will from time to time offer jigs at 10-20% off making them an even better buy. Not as many colors but still a great range to choose from and fish comparably.

As far as trailers I like a few. Once you get up to a bigger jig with more skirt strands and heavier weight I opt for bigger trailers. Reaction Innovations big dipper, Keitech 3.8 and 4.8 Fat Swing impacts, and generally any larger paddle tail style trailer...

Quality, in my opinion, doesn't have anything to do with a company using a rubber collar on their jigs. It's super simple to just replace the collar with braid and therefore eliminate that "problem". I'm much more concerned with paint, skirt, and especially hook quality in my jigs than I am about which method of holding the skirt is used. Dirty Jigs has those 3 areas covered and then some. Best hooks out there (No Jack), great color selection for their skirts and heads and the paint has proven to be quite durable.

Again this is just one man's opinion so there will, as has been stated already, be people who don't agree with it. That's perfectly alright as everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I find that there are usually compromises that have to be made when selecting jig brands and I'd much rather that compromise be the rubber skirt collar than any of the other three qualities I mentioned earlier.

I am fully aware of the remedies to deal with rubber band style collars. It is something that from a production standpoint is cheaper. Braid, floral wire, and copper wire all can be used to reinforce and increase longevity of said jig. Yes, the hooks and paint are good on Dirty jigs but Sibert offers various hook options and Northstars hook stick just as many fish for me and I fish these 3 brands along with Revenge Swim jigs a lot. I am not saying the dirty jigs aren't high quality rather there are several options out there that compete favorably on quality components as well as beating them by a good margin on price. For a guy looking at say the swim jig page on TW he would never see either Sieberts or Northstars California style swim jig there. And no I am not trying to toot the horn of the sponsors to do so like others do but rather out of experience with years on the water with all 3 and the fact that they are relatively identical to what he is looking for.

Mine are either NorthStar Original Swim Jig or Siebert Outdoors. I had great success

with these this year using both the Rage Tail Menace and Shellcracker for trailers.

Agreed but as I stated earlier I'd rather have the compromise be here than the hook. I'm just a huge fan of the no jack hooks in my swim jigs. I've had the 3X Mustad bend so that's why I'm very high on the no jack. I'm not aware of which hooks the other two brands you mentioned use (or their available options) but in the pics I've seen they appear to be Mustad hooks so this is why I feel the Dirty Jigs are better.

I'm not at all trying to imply my opinion is "better/more correct" than yours, I'm simply saying that I place the most importance on the hook.

I guess that would depend. I find the ez shad to be pretty durable. After a few fish on single ez shad, all I could see was rash from "teeth" marks.

Was not ripped at all. Still using it.

x2 on dirty jigs, great colors/sizes and durable.

No harm no foul. I was just pointing out the one flaw in the rubberband style colar and noting a few other options that are cheaper and in the same ballpark from a profile and quality standpoint.

I am sure we both catch our fair share on jigs regardless of brand and collar!
