Dypsis Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I just purchased this rod (from a fellow member) and am heading to the tackle shop next weekend to pair it with a reel. I was thinking one of the following: CH200E7 CH150CI4HG TDZLN100SHA - currently at a nice price at TW little on the heavy side - wanted to keep it under 8oz but we will see T3-1016SH - currently at 54% off at TW Any thoughts on what would be a nice reel to pair with it - I will bring the rod to see what feels great just looking for some reviews, experience. Also - anyone know why lots of Daiwa reels are on sale - new models for 2015? Quote
John G Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Out of the reels that you mentioned, I have had a Scorpion XT1500-7 on mine at one point and the Scorpion should basically be the same reel as the CH200E7. It was a nice fit IMHO! Quote
Dypsis Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 I am certainly not set on any of those, I was leaning towards the Shimanos and saw the Diawas on sale. I also was looking at Abu Garcia - but there are just so many choices. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 23, 2014 Super User Posted September 23, 2014 I have my 844c paired with a Daiwa Zillion. The Zillion works best with heavy lures and the 844c loads well with any over 3/8oz and up. Seemed to be the right match. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 For crying out loud, since when a sub 9 oz reel is heavy ? Hell, I'm 50, have bad elbows and can fish 10 hrs in a row casting macho size baits with reels like the Zillion and not complain. Guys grow a pair and eat spinach. If sub 9 oz is so tiresome you can always cast with both of your delicate arms. 2 Quote

Actually, regarding the weight of the reel - I was told from the previous owner that the rod balances really well with a reel under 8oz so I was looking to get a similar size reel. Sorry it took so long to respond I had to take a few breaks to rest my delicate arms. 2 Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 The Curado is a fine reel and often pops up in our Flea Market. "Gently Used" should sell for $125 - $150. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 Consider a Tatula over the old Zillion. As far as the Shimanos mentioned the lighter Chronarch would be my choice. Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 I'm 66, don't work out, and when I visit me brother-in-law there are days we spend about 14 hours on the water. I can see wanting a lighter reel for balancing the rod (I'm not good enough to worry about that), but have to agree with Raul. My rod arm tires out if I am ripping a big spinnerbait through the grass / weeds, otherwise I could fish another 14 hours if the fish were hitting. Quote

Super User Raul Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 I've got to get a Tatula so I can see why it would be recommended over a Zillion !!! Me too ! Super User South FLA Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 I've got to get a Tatula so I can see why it would be recommended over a Zillion !!! I have basically kept my Zillion Type R and my Saltwater Series Zillion and sold off my other 2 Zillions, after trying the Tatula. I am not saying I would recommend it over the new upcoming Zillion or a Type R, only the old Zillion. I have a new Tatula Type R and have been blown away by its peformance casting wise and its lighter weight when compared to my tank tough and heavy Zillion. Don't get me wrong the Zillion is a great higher end reel and I am sure the new Zillion TWS 100H will surpass the Tatula especially since the price point is significantly higher. Nevertheless, it should be considered as a contender for a reel to match Dypsis IMX 844C! Quote
IAY Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Me too ! It´s like telling a guy that steps out of a Rolls Royce " hey man, the new Ford Fiesta is a car you should consider over your old Rolls when buying a new car " Can you fit as many people in a Rolls Royce as Ford Fiestas worth of Rolls Royce? I don't think so! xD I would wait for the new Zillion at 300 dollars which is quite nice. Weight isn't much of a factor as much as how well it balances with the rod. Quote

It´s like telling a guy that steps out of a Rolls Royce " hey man, the new Ford Fiesta is a car you should consider over your old Rolls when buying a new car " Come on Raul, lol, its not exactly a fair comparision! Ford Fiesta price is $14,400 vs Rolls Royce Ghost price of $250,000 a 17x multiplier. If I was comparing a Daiwa Laguna ($59) to a tuned out Daiwa such as a MegaBass Hyper Lariat ($750), I would see your point. Price point on the older model Zilllion is $238 vs $199 for a Type R Tatula and $148 for the basic Tatula. Therefore it should be in the mix, like I said Daiwa is releasing the newer Zillion and it will have oversized carbon washers, TWS line guide, and lighter weight frame to displace the old model, some of those features are currently found on the newer Tatula. Zillion Type R on top Zillion Coastal Edition in middle and a Tatula Type R on the bottom Quote

Super User South FLA Posted September 25, 2014 Super User Posted September 25, 2014 What are those knobs on that bottom Type R? I must know! Why you like them? Sweet aren't they!
