JDJ Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm traveling to Orlando this week, and would appreciate recommendations for any noteworthy fishing equipment stores in the area. Thanks! Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted September 23, 2014 Super User Posted September 23, 2014 The BassPro in Orlando is huge and should cover you for whatever type of fishing you are doing. 1 Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 24, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 24, 2014 I would second Mudhole, then Bitters bait and Tackle. Best in house plastics made. And finally a trip to lake wales to see Bridgemasters. Plan to spend hours here. 1 Quote
primetime Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Gander Mountain is quite large as well, and often has great deals in their bins, but Bitter's and Brigemasters is a must especially if you like soft baits dirt cheap and top grade. Quote
JDJ Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Thanks all for your suggestions! Quote

Chris S Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Once this place opens you will never go to BPS again!!! http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/morning_call/2014/07/academy-sports-outdoors-plans-to-open-4-stores-in.html Quote
mplspug Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I just saw a sign and construction going on in Lake Mary. It's across the street from Gander, that should be interesting. Quote
Super User MCS Posted October 5, 2014 Super User Posted October 5, 2014 If y'all never shopped academy before they have decent sales, good store brand terminal tackle and spinner baits. The h2o baits are good. Plenty of zoom plastics. Quote

From the way they've been managing that Gander store, it wouldn't take much to be competitive. The fishing department has always been slanted towards the saltwater enthusiast. The Freshwater tackle has diminished to the point I won't even drive up there anymore. Quote

Its funny you complain about Gander, because I am from Minnesota and the fishing forum up there most people complained about Gander too. Honestly I have no idea how they stay in business when I see far more negative comments compared to positive ones when it comes to Gander. Quote
mplspug Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Did some pond hoping the last 2 days and was blanked. I don't think the blue bird skies and fishing mid day is helping. Quote
gar-tracker Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 If coming from Tenn, you'll pass what I think is one of the best stores Iv been in Academy Sports, they're all through the southeast but none south of Tallahassee. Unbelievable they carry their own brand of lures line rods and its all quality stuff for half the price, their lures are frigging unreal coated like a high quality lures for like 3 bucks and change. I picked up a 79 dollar flipping stick that I couldnt believe. 1 Quote

mplspug Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 So what does everyone think of the new store? I have to check out the H2O baits they sell. As long as the quality is good, you can't beat the price. My only problem with the store is because of the H2O products, they seem to have a smaller selection of other brands. For example, I was looking for a Rapala Shadow Rap, but they didn't have them. I hope Gander does. I wish they had live shiners, but I understand why they don't. At least they have some crawlers and wigglers I can pick up for the ponds around me. Quote
