Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 21, 2014 Super User Posted September 21, 2014 just for crankbaits or is it stout enough for single hook lures? I see they offer very few F or XF rods. Most of mine are F for versatility. Quote
doyle8218 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I have a 6'10" MH-Fast and I use it for almost everything. It is my favorite rod. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted September 21, 2014 Super User Posted September 21, 2014 My 7'7" medium-"regular" casting rod fishes as a moderate-fast. I have no experience with the rest of the product line rated as "regular." It would not be my first choice for bottom-contact single-hook applications but it could be made to work if using braid or if you are in the habit of using a Mongo hookset. Could work perhaps for moving single-hook like spinnerbaits but again, not ideal. I am very satisfied with the 7'7" rod for what I use it for, open water lipless cranks, where it excels. But I never considered using it for single-hook; there's other tools in the shed for that... Quote
Super User deep Posted September 22, 2014 Super User Posted September 22, 2014 The regular taper Lexa works good for swimjigs and spinnerbaits, but I fish them on braid. Its just a good all-purpose rod for me. Even did a little punching yesterday with it. I'd classify the action as a moderate-fast. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 22, 2014 Author Super User Posted September 22, 2014 Thanks. Walmart has some closeout models on sale for $89.03, but most are Regular action rods. Although I enjoy tossing crankbaits, I don't have much luck with them, and actually bought my first "cranking" rod last winter. I usually throw crankbaits on a MF rod. I don't really see a need for another cranking rod. They do have the 7'1" MHXF and 7'2" HF. I already have enough Heavy rods. I do not have any rods 7' or longer with an XF action. I do have a 6'6' and 6'9" MXF rod. I don't know if adding the 7'1" MHXF would be a worthwhile addition. I assume it would make a good jig rod, but I seldom fish jigs. I do fish spinnerbaits a lot, and it should also work well for those. $89 is a great price, but not if you won't be using the rod very often. I do like using shallow running squarebills. Maybe I could justify a Regular rod for those. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted September 22, 2014 Super User Posted September 22, 2014 I have a 7' ML-R Tatula rod, and use it mostly for small cranks. But I have used it for very light plastics and micro jigs. It is easily sensitive enough for bottom contact presentations. As long as your hooks are sharp, hooksets are no problem. And you don't need braid either. I use 8lb test mono on mine. I think there is a general misconception about just what a mod-fast action rod is. A mod-fast rating does not mean the rod has no power, or backbone. It simply means that the power is a little further down the blank. You don't have to swing any harder, you don't have to swing any faster, you just have to swing a little bit farther. I have several rods now with regular, or mod-fast actions, and I'm liking them more and more. There's a reason so many of the ultra high end Japanese sticks are regular action. I think they're onto something, and have been for a while. We have yet to catch up. If any of the Walmarts near me had those rods at those prices, I'd go get some. 2 Quote

I believe the Walmart site say it is free shipping to your store. Thanks for the info. I'm short a few rods, and the Tatula rods have been getting good reviews. Unfortunately I'm also short on cash. Otherwise I'd be tempted to go for at least 2 models. Quote
JGBassinAL Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 just for crankbaits or is it stout enough for single hook lures? I see they offer very few F or XF rods. Most of mine are F for versatility. I have no experience with those rods but if their regular is more of a mod-fast like everyone is saying then I would say go for it. All of my jig, t-rig, and c-rig rods have mod fast tips on them. I like it way better than a fast action rod. Better casting and keeps fish pinned better. Never had a problem with hooksets either. If it's a little more moderate than you like, I'd still pick it up for swimbaits, swim jigs, spinnerbaits, etc. I throw all of my single hook moving baits on glass rods with moderate tips and I know this sounds crazy but my landing percentage has greatly increased. I do have a few fast action rods still but those solely go towards chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and rattle traps in and around grass. If I am throwing those in open water then I'm using a MH or H glass blank with a moderate tip. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 22, 2014 Super User Posted September 22, 2014 i had a regular action, but returned it for a fast action before i ever threw it so i cannot really comment on it. but i really like the fast version that i have for throwing jigs and worms, love these rods. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 22, 2014 Author Super User Posted September 22, 2014 Well don't that beat all. There were 5 models available when I posted. This evening there were 3 models left. In the few minutes I spent looking for the other 2 models, it went down to only 2 models left. Guess I should have gotten one last night because neither of the 2 models left are what I wanted. Dang. Quote
