Gentlemen,  Im curious.

How productive is your average outing?

Meaning - For each time you go out on the water...

What is the average number of hours you typically spend fishing?

What is the average number of fish you typically catch during those hours?

I'll usually spend 8-10 hours on a full day of fishing. Numbers depends a lot on where I'm at. Lakes that are known to produce good numbers, I'm pretty disappointed if I don't approach or pass 50 fish in a day. If I'm on a big fish lake I'm not worried about numbers, just quality. On those lakes a really good day could be 10 fish, but a majority of them will be quality fish.

Well considering mainly fish city park ponds that get lots of pressure, if you manage 2-3 fish a day consistantly you're doing something write. So my normal outing is around 6hrs (fish while my son is in school) so if I get 6-8fish druing the day it's a pretty good day of fishing.  Normal day, 2 fish and then there are always days where they don't want to bite and you get zero.  Those days you look back and hit the reset button and go at it the next day with a different approach by what you observed the prior day.

South FL. Thick grass, sand spurs, and somtimes mud.. Its kinda tiring, but catching a big bass is so worth it. I go out at first light, until about 11am. So 5 hours.

On a good day 1 to 2, ruffly 3 pounders, and 4 or 5 little 1 pounders.

On a not so good day take away the 3 pounders, and all thats left are the little one pounders.

And on a great day throw in a 5-7 pounder.

My normal outing is about 3 hours. I bank fish in NYC lakes and ponds, where there's a lot of pressure and they have all been on the decline for some reason for the past 2 years. I catch 2-3 fish. Once I get into college hope i'll be someplace more productive! :D

Im sorry.. I probably catch 3 or 4 fish an hour so I only fish like 2.5 to 3 hours. I've never though about it so sorry I did my math wrong.

A disappointing day for me is under 10 bass, a decent day would be up to 20, and a good day being over 20 bass. The most I've caught in a day was 61.

I fish between 5 and 8 hours.

I fish an average of 8-10 hours when I go fishing. I'm always fishing with my dad or brother in law so the extra rod comes in handy. We average around 15 bass in a days time. There are times where that number could be 5 bass a day. During the summer things get tough in Alabama. But during other times, 30 fish a day isn't that tough if you want to catch that many. The spring and fall can be unreal.

We focus on catching tournament grade fish so we aren't focused on simply catching as many fish as possible. But I have heard about guys that can catch 100 fish a day. Of course most of them are babies, but that it still impressive to me. A lot of people's numbers will depend on what they are aiming to do as I'm sure you'll see.

Depends where I'm fishing completely. Lake behind my high school is awful and I'm lucky to catch one if I go from 3:00 to 5:00. Other neighborhood lakes with little to no fishing pressure if I don't catch 15 in 2 hours I'm disappointed. Also depends what I'm using. I've been killing them on white flukes recently and I'm just not doing as well on anything else.

Depends on the time of year. I'll fish 10 to 12 hours a day for 2 weeks straight in the spring fishing for schooling, prespawn smallmouth.  The average for those times is 10 fish per hour.  Most of my fishing the rest of the year are river float trips that last 5 to 8 hours where the average runs closer to 2 to 5 fish per hour.

On average 4 fish per hour.

On local ponds it's about one good fish (5 lbs+) for every 1 1/2 hours of fishing.

Big numbers are rare, but I had a big day a weeke ago after the flood (10" in

4 hours). My best day on big water was fishing with Dinky at Pickwick on the

BassResource RoadTrip a couple of years ago- 78 bass!

My very best smallmouth day in terms of size was with my dear friend Speedy

Madewell in January, 2005. Fifteen brown fish, eight over 5 lbs and the following

Saturday, the two fish in my avatar. Pics from that day: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_record.html

Best fish EVER for me was fishing on another RoadTrip at Guntersville. Alpster

and I were stranded when Long Mike, Glenn and Keri came to our rescue. While

Mike, Glenn and Keri were putting in, I hooked up with this: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/lake-guntersville-2012.html

This is a good question OP. I remember, in my old club, one of the members saying we don't know how good we have it up here in Maine with the numbers we get. His brother lives down south and, like most of the responses here, if he gets 5-8 fish in a day, he's happy; I'd go home scratching my head wondering what I did wrong. I guess I'm a little spoiled but on my home lake, I usually just fish the morning to be home in time to get the lawn mowed, but I usually fish about 5 hrs and can't remember a day that I caught less than 20. In the spring, I have a spot that, in the last 4 yrs, fishing 4 hrs, caught between 40 and 45 every morning. Granted that bite only lasts for 2 weeks but it's the best bite of the year. On most days, in my 5 hrs I typically catch 25-30.

Usually spend 3 hours on the banks... Probably catch like 6-7 but that's it. I fish public ponds though

I fish so many different bodies of water that there is no "average" day for me, some places have piles of bass that are all small, and others may have low numbers of quality fish. Some places consistently produce fish on predictable patterns, and other places can be entirely hit or miss. I fish when I have time, so 30 mins after school or 12-13 hours on rare occasion in the summer.

Well, today was a SLOW day... very windy, with low and muddy water.  I fished about five hours and caught five bass (one over 4 lbs., one over 3), four or five pickerel and four or five pike, and three white perch.  I'd say about 17 fish total.

Tight lines,

Bob

I usually don't fish over 4 hours at a time.  In south Florida everything is seasonal based on time of the year and water levels.  Water levels are key.

At NORMAL WATER LEVELS you could expect a good 20 to 35 fish in a four hour span. (Early summer or  Late Fall)

At HIGH WATER LEVELS you could expect 10 to 15 on a good day for four hours.  (Summer to Early Fall)

At LOW WATER LEVELS you could easily catch 100 to 150 in four hours.  (Late Winter to Spring)

It gets crazy in the early spring!  :respect-059:

You should have been here when San Lorenzo opened it's doors, hundred fish a day was slow, 5, 6, 7 pounders were considered trash fish, they were so common that you got bored catching them, 3 or 4 10+ lbers. in a day were really common. Absolutely insane, if I had not lived it I wouldn't belived it.

Im starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my lake here..

I fish from shore, my gear is solid, and Im confident that my baits & presentations are solid.   This lake is one that restricts boaters to using electric motors ONLY, and no water recreation is permitted outside of kayaking and canoeing.  So activity on the water is quite low.

So, with that...

> My average outing is about 3.5 hrs

> My average number of fish caught, is only 1 for about every 3 to 5 outings....not hours --> outings.

> so far this season, since May, Ive caught 6 fish on this lake.

> last season, From July to October,  I also caught 6 fish.

I get the impression from others around there, that I may actually fair better than most.  So, not sure what the problem could be.  Whats funny about it though is, when you do catch a fish whilst in the presence of others, you become an instant rock star.  And the people come, and gather around to look at your fish.

I don't expect big numbers, but I should at the very least, be able to land 1 fish per each outing.  I see no reason why this isn't happening.

I catch 2 to 5 bass in two hours.

If I catch less than that, I stay out until I do catch something.  Saturday was disappointing because they all shut down due to a strange front.  (It wasn't just me; it seems it effected multiple states.)  I stayed out five hours trying.  Did I ever mention I'm stubborn?

This is from the bank, by the way.  I'm still working on the boat when I have time.  At this rate, I anticipate completion by around 2025.

I very rarely get out for more than a couple of hours at a time, so one or two fish is a good day for me.
