What Happens If You Or I Did?

We all fish for relaxation or whatever reason, regardless of that,what would happen if you were to catch say the state record bass? or the world record bass ? you get put in the record books i'm sure,but is that all for getting that accomplishment done? i don't know if you'd think about that when you caught whatever fish you just broke that record with. but i bet it would come to mind . would you get any money? and what about the gear,tackle,etc... i'm sure the companies gear you used to catch whatever fish would jump forward . hasn't happened but if it did? your op.

Arkansas state record is kinda what I've been shooting for all year! 16lbs.8oz.   hasn't happened yet though & probably won't but we all dream about something....  Lol.

^^This^^  I don't fish for money or records.  I don't even take pictures of my catches.  I have an old flip phone and don't want to carry a camera.  If I DID catch a record breaker, I wouldn't even know it nor would I know what to do with it to get it verified.  I try to get any bass I catch back into the water as quickly as I can.  I'd just know I caught a big 'un.  And then I'd brag......... my buddies would think I was full of *****.....and life would go on.

I beleve it's outdoor life that also has a "contest" for a certified world record. Prize is $500,000 plus a new truck & boat. Tackle copanies wouldn't take the chance (I know I wouldn't) on having bogas ads. If by chance you caught it on one of my jigs or another co's. tackle and you could prove it you'd most likely get some kind of deal from them? If your marketable (had a better than avg. face, most of your teeth,& smarter than a rock), you might have a slim chance of making more $$$ than that.

While out fishing, I don't often think about what I would do if I caught a world record bass.  However, when I have snagged a moveable object and am slowly dragging it to the surface, I have gone through the scenario of what I would do if that object turned out to be a dead body.  Open the spool, let it sink, call the cops on my cell phone & wait.  If I see any rough looking characters coming my way, take off as fast as my 46lb thrust Minn Kota will take me.

 

What's really dumb about that is that I fish on a lake surrounded by million dollar homes in one of the lowest crime rated areas in the whole country.  As if the Gambino family will suddenly choose my shallow home lake to start dumping their bodies when they have the entire Pacific Ocean just 10 miles away...

I suppose it's crossed my mind.  What if I caught a record fish?  Odds are it won't happen.  If I did catch something that I thought might be a contender I'd be really torn.  It would be really cool to hold the state record but on the other hand I don't think I could bring myself to kill a 12 lb. bass.  If there were someone nearby with a bucket or something maybe I'd take it to one of the certified spots in Maryland where a record fish can be weighed in and then release it but if not, then it's CPR.  Catch, Photo, Release and then onto BR and Facebook to brag about my catch.  Sure, it's not official but I know what I caught.  I dont' care about money or free gear.  I'm fishing for fun.

In all likelihood the next World Record will be caught by an individual who has spent years in pursuit and have amassed wealth of knowledge.With all the technology available today it will be certified and recorded more than sufficiently. When it is caught it will shake the foundations of North American bass fishing, and you WILL see every manufacturer in any way associated with the catch jumping on the bandwagon. It's simple business. If I am blessed enough to catch a state or world record I will keep it and make all necessary arrangements to have it certified;if at all possible I will keep it alive. I have released every truly large bass I have caught in my life with the exception of a 7lber I caught in my youth, including several that many anglers in my part of the country would love to have on the wall, but I have no qualms about keeping one.

Point taken,  the wording in my original statement was poor.    Dottie was a huge fish, but when she weighted this amount she was not legally hooked, so could not be a record.
