5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 My best friend is the one I fish with the majority of the time. We have been friends for about 3 years. His daughter and mine are both 8 and used to go to the same school. They are like two peas in a pod. Best friends. He and his family aren't the "cleanest" living people in the world but very caring and nice. Their trailer is always a wreck, cars a mess inside and out, and don't really take care of personal hygiene that well. The issue came up about a year ago when our daughter got head lice. Not dating our house is perfect, but it stays in museum condition daily. Just how we are. The clean freak kinda peeps. We got it treated immediately and very expensive to treat our daughter and preventative for us too. Come to find out that our daughters friend (my friend's daughter) had to leave school because she was caught scratching her head in class and the staff found TONS of lice and eggs in there. She got it "treated" at home with orange juice. Not effective at all but sent her back to school. Well, the next few weeks went by and the girls didn't have any sleepovers or play dates simply due to schedules. We has one shortly after and our daughter got lice the next day! More money and more hassle. We didn't say anything and then our daughter switched schools when we moved a couple months ago just about 15 minutes away. It was brought to our attention that several of the girls in her previous school had contacted had lice too! All of them were at a sleepover at the same girls house! Since our daughter switched schools over two months ago her and her friend have not had any sleepovers or long play dates. About a week ago they did at great Wolf Lodge for my daughter's birthday. You guessed it, lice the next day after the birthday weekend was done. My wife flipped out when we found them at home. So we mentioned it to my friend and his wife when we got back from the trip that their daughter had been scratching her head again and that our daughter had gotten lice once again. My friend is the most oblivious and apathetic person and said he would check his daughter out. He called me about 5 minutes later and told me that she was clear and our daughter probably got it from the Great Wolf from a other kid. What!?!?!? First of all my wife works in medicine and both girls have long hair and she does our daughter'a hair in about 1-1.5 hiurs. It is not a 5 minute deal. So his wife was very defensive and seemed ticked off. So we decided between me and my wife that the girls would just need a break until we could nicely tell them that their daughter needs to be treated by a professional clinic or at home with the RX solutions like we did. Now the issue. His wife texts me and and my wife today super pusses off that the girls haven't been together for about 2 weeks and want to know why. My wife wrote out the text response but hasn't sent it out. She will to tight after I read it. I know his wife will be ticked but we have to be honest about it too. He probably won't really care but he may get offensive too. Ok any event it is not worth the hassle. We can't make excuses about it anymore. This is crazy. Sorry to vent. I never post about this stuff but you guys are good sounding boards. :-) Joe Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 19, 2014 Super User Posted September 19, 2014 I believe you know what you have to do. The right choice is rarely the easy one. Perhaps you should walk a mile - next time your daughter becomes infested, ensure you get them too. Continue this situation repeatedly until you are able to come to a decision. A-Jay Quote

The thing we keep looking at is this has been I going off and on for over a year now. We have spent over $700 on the issue and if we keep band aiding the situation with lies why they can't have a sleep over, then the problem remains. Quote

You're not helping yourself look any better here. OK how about this - every time your daughter becomes infested - have your wife kick you in the stones. That should help you decide. A-Jay 1 Quote

5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 Spot on Deak. Our daughter is very mature for her age and we can talk with her about a number of things like this. She understands why and she doesn't like the hassle either. However her friend is oblivious and her parents are plain apathetic to it all and it has to stop. Wife sent the text. We will see what happens. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 19, 2014 Super User Posted September 19, 2014 "See what Happens ?" Nothing just happens. Knowingly allowing your daughter to come into contact with a situation that is detrimental to her health, over & over & over again ~ ? ? ? There's an official term for that. Are you hoping that your "Friends" completely alter there own life style to suit yours ? Not going to happen. Cut the cord man. A-Jay 1 Quote

That's why we are handling things now. Don't make it out like child abuse bro. Whatever your "term" is, not sure it applies here. Don't want this turning on us as bad parents man. The kids' friendship is important to them, and we want to try to help it out as this last resort. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted September 19, 2014 Super User Posted September 19, 2014 You know, it's such a tight rope when you have kids that young, and probably don't understand, but usually the school would step up and notify the parents about a problem like that. I wish you luck 5 Dollar. BTW, you used the word "apathetic" twice now, can you cut the crap on the $0.10 words, I can't stand looking them up, besides, we're just fishermen you know?! 1 Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 Their lifestyle won't change in account for us. Actually that is a good point. They are good people, and the girls are good friends. Best friends. But we have leveled with our daughter and actually over the last couple weeks she seems to be less bothered that she hasn't seen her in a while. Her friend on the other hand is So sheltered on many things. Tough situation guys Quote

Jig, the school when we were there said that they did head checks about once a week. And sometimes not even that. To be honest, it is that one girl that spread it all around. Crazy. $.10 words? Don't make me go NC country on it!!!!! :-) Quote

Differences of opinion can and do happen. I'm out. A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted September 20, 2014 Super User Posted September 20, 2014 I'm dumbfounded. If I had children, and if they were to come home with lice I'd figure who/what/where/when and would end that friendship for my childs' health sake. If they live like that then lice could be the least of your worries. 1 Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 They heard OJ was a remedy. Wrong. :-/ Working on that now redline. Good thing is our daughter understands too. :-) Quote
