I havent really tried buzzbaits in the past, and I plan on doing just that this weekend. I have watched Glenn's videos on buzzbaits, And feel that I have a adequate amount of knowledge to hopefully have some success after a little bit of practice. I am going to buy some at Dicks Sporting Goods tomorrow afternoon and would like some input on what to look for. My questions are;

What is YOUR favorite buzzbait?

What do you do to it to get it ready for fishing?

Skirt, or grub?

Cavitrons are the bomb diggity.

But if dicks doesn't carry those the strike king ones are pretty good. I use a skirt and grub alot.

I'm ethier using just the skirt, a skirt and grub, or a skirt and trailer hook.

I like the Terminator Dual Bladed Buzzbait. If the Caviton had the 2 blade option, I'd try it.

Back when the buzz bait craze first started - late 70's where I was living at the time - I acquired an original Lunker Lure Buzz bait.  I used it for years and in certain situations it worked great.  It is gone now and I don't know what happened to it - probably lost it in action but I don't know that.  Now I own lots of different brands of buzz baits and they all work about the same.  That being said, I don't catch a lot of fish on a buzz bait, conditions for them don't happen all that often on the lakes that I fish.

Thanks for reminding me about the Cavitron.  I do own one and next time I think a buzz bait might work I will tie on that one and see what happens.  For me, every time the fish are in the 4 to 7 foot grass and you think a buzz bait might work, swimming a worm through the grass seems to work much better for me.

Cavitron. To get it ready, I tie it on. ;)

Any Preference on color or size?

I will be fishing a small lake, about 10 acres. The fellow I am going ewith said he crushed them last weekend on a buzzbait, so I figured I would take one to try and see if they were still turned on by it.

I have a black one, a white one, and a silver one.  Pretty sure they're all 3/8 oz.

Guy that worked at a Ford plant in Louisville Ky made some dandy ones.  Piano wire was the deal.  Could make those babies squeeeeke like no other.  After that I can't find one that makes me say wow anymore.  I will look up this Cavitron now..

My only preference for a buzzbait, is that it has a boat-keel shaped head.  So then, I like any brand that makes a buzzbait with one of those.

I typically fish it with both a skirt + 5" Fat curly grub.

3/8 black with black with purple fleck trailer and skirt has been my #1 lure all season and has worked at times of the day it shouldn't if you read other threads on buzzbaits here.  My Dicks (and anything else around here for that matter) don't carry Cavitrons, so its likely always been a Strike King.  I find the 1/4 oz a bit too small, especially for casting out with my spinning rigs, though I still try them from time to time.

Not sure who makes it, I think booyah, but it's one of the ones with a clacker. I got a few cavitrons too but I like the clacking sound, I wouldn't say one catches more than the other. The only trailer I ise is a trailer hook

I've always had good results with the Strike King Tri-Wing. I always feel like I'm struggling to keep traditional buzzbaits on plane without overworking it. The Tri-Wing lets me slow things down. I'm interested in trying a quad wing buzzbait in the future for the ultimate in "slow rolling" on the surface.

I like the Cavitrons when I don't want a clacker, and the D&M Hot-Rod when I want a clacker. They are the only two buzzbaits I fish, and I throw at least one of them almost every single time I am out fishing early or late.
