C0lt Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 woke up early before school to do a bit of pond fishing. Used a new buzz frog (damiki air frog) and didnt have a single bite. No sure what I expected considering it was in the low 40's when I went out. Then i went to a reservoir that I had never been to this evening and fished some downed trees. After loosing my storm kicking slab, as well as a couple soft plastic rigs to the tree, I managed to catch one dink on a jig (first jig fish actually). Then I lost my jig and decided to call it a day. I dont think Connecticut is the best sate for fall fishing. Quote
ABW Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I've had horrible luck the past week. Hooked a goose on Friday lol. Then tonight I went fishing with some lipless cranks. A backlash in my braid digs in so much I have to cut it out. Then 30 minutes later I have to retie because the line got severely tangled around the trebles. Then I lose the bait later. After that I tie on an Arashi wake bait, and the split ring falls apart on me. Went home after that. Quote

I thought that today would be the day that I hung up the gear for the season, however we are having a couple day warm front sometime this weekend or into next weeks, but after that, I think im done until march. Its tough to catch fish in the fall up north, and its even harder as a shore fisherman. If you add the fact that I blow at fishing, it turns into a pretty bleak situation (some of these emotion icons are really funny btw) Quote
einscodek Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 we're in the same area the fish were also a bit post frontal they wouldnt be aggressively going after frogs or buzzes your jig was the right move I got some slow rolling a spinnerbait the other day.. they were even short-biting plastics..they were not very committed I agree fall is the least productive of the 3 seasons where we are but its too early to hang up the fishing gear for the year tho Quote

Hopefully that will be a more productive day for me. And as for what you said about fall being the least productive of the four seasons; Idk how you fish but I don't catch any fish when my lakes are frozen over haha Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted September 20, 2014 Super User Posted September 20, 2014 Sorry to hear you had a couple of bad outings. But you lost me as soon as I saw 40 degrees. I live in South FL and its I can't wait for us to cool off bit. Quote

I dont fish winter either I do sense the bites being slightly more tentative my last outing but that was post frontal and its september and I'm still catchin' though football is on.. it aint late enough to pull me off the lake and yes I have Sunday circled as well.. I will be out there to see if the fish are positioning for Fall ..and taking some water temp readings ..and throwin bigger swimbaits Quote
