Super User Nitrofreak Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 Yep , 37 days and counting , not a beer one , I feel better , I've lost 20 lbs , my mental focus still is lacking , in the fact that it remains very short , but working on that , my memory is shortened as well , but working on that also . Fishing , in so many ways , tends to help alleviate stress more so than any drug or alcohol , in fact , in and of itself , fishing can be a cure if you allow it to be , not just being on the water either , playing with your gear , practicing in your yard when you can't be on the water , getting back in touch with map studies , reading articles in magazines , talking to people , in all aspects of fishing , there is an unbelievable connection to something else , it's peaceful , it's frustrating , so many entities all rolled into one , it's an escape from the real world without voices yelling and screaming , although there are voices that like to tell you to fish over here , or , over there looks like a good spot ! It's amazing how much clearer you see things once you realize how distorted things used to be , I find now that the reason I never allowed alcohol on the boat , it wasn't being afraid of the law , I find that I believe that I didn't want this time to be corrupted . I have all these friends that drink just as I did , I find it amazing how I have no desire to drink as they do and yet still be able to enjoy their company , good friends who don't hamper my decision or make me try to join in , I am finding myself in a different place , on and off the water , enjoying once again , this life . Good luck and be safe !!! 1 Quote

Wonder if drinking would be worse after a period of time elapses then pick up the habit again ? You finding it hard to quit again ? It's been 349 days since my last drink. That's quite an accomplishment , congrats J !! If you don't mind me asking , Were you a heavy drinker ? Just had enough one day ? Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 Sent you a PM. I'll just say I had the capacity to drink heavier than most on occasion, lol. An occupational hazard for a musician, my friend. And yes, it takes one to know one.LOL I used to drink way too much. Now I don't. There some days I'm pretty sure I don't drink enough. I like wine. My wife and i will split a bottle for dinner a couple of times a week. I'll drink a beer or two now and then. I'm partial to single malt scotch and fine old cognac, but I never drink very much of either at any one time. Moderation in all things. 1 Quote

Super User Raul Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 Man it´s been months since my last beer, I ocassionaly take a couple. My last cigarrete: 21 months ago. I save the money I used to spend on cigarrettes and by the end of the month I have 100 bucks to spend/save for other things ( like fishing stuff or videogames ). 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 it can be tough, but your head is in the right place man. 5.5 years no cigs for me after smoking heavy for about 7 or 8 years. i don't drink that much (beer or wine = instant migraine) but i'll take a crown royal/sprite on occasion or a few margaritas on vacation or something. i have other areas though that i find that same "release" others are looking for. unfortunately my "drink of choice" is only legal in a couple of states at the moment...... 1 Quote

Super User RoLo Posted September 18, 2014 Super User Posted September 18, 2014 It's been several hours since my last drink I only drink medicinally of course, to benefit from the French Paradox and to keep my HDLs over 55. Super User Sam Posted September 19, 2014 Super User Posted September 19, 2014 Great update! You are the Man of the Year. I reduced my weight from 216 to 184 but fell off the wagon and am now up to 188. Have to start swimming on a regular basis once again. And you need to take up an exercise, like walking, to help control your weight and get your metabolism going faster. After all, as we age our metabolisms slow down and other parts start to go out on us. My family physician has me on a regiment of various vitamin and mineral pills which help greatly. Now it is your turn to continue your path so you can reach your goal: modeling male underwear in ladies magazines!!!!!! Very happy for you and your accomplishments. Let's try for another Virginia Meet and Greet in 2015. 1 Quote
