JTP Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 my dropshot rods that ive had in the past. Dobyns Champ 701 Carbonlite 6'9 ML St. Croix LTB 6'10 ML I Sold the St. Croix because it had a good tip just not enough of it and i fish with 6lb Sunline sniper. I Sold the Dobyns because it just wasnt sensitive but it balanced like a dream. (gonna get hate for that, could of had a defective rod idk) carbonlite broke on my but that was probably my favorite rod but its not the best quality. I had used my cousins IMX 6'10 Mag Med and i love it. Only problem is that its $300 i bought the St. Croix and the dobyns both during sales i think Tackle warehouse. HERES THE QUESTION. What brand rod is your fave for dropshot and why? Quote
Mike2841 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Right now I'm using a st croix premier 7' ml and I love it. Quote
warpath58 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Megabass Destroyer Evoluzion 6'10" Elseil This is by far the best dropshot rod I have ever held. Worth every penny. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 I've got the 6'10" ML/XF St. Croix LTB and absolutely love it. I also use 6 lb fluorocarbon and haven't had an issue with it. It sounds like you're very picky about your rods, so if you've found one that you love you might as well buy it regardless of the cost. Super User J Francho Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 It really depends on the bait, conditions and situation. I have five rods dedicated to it. The one I grab the most (actually have two of it) for general deep, open water is an Avid - AVS63MLXF. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 My go-to DS rod is a St. Croix 5S69MLXF I have a Rainshadow ISB822.5 for heavier/bulky baits I also have a NFC DS-610 for smaller/lighter baits. I have a Rainshadow XSW72ML....just because I like the color. lol There's a Croix 5S610MXF in the works to fit between the MLXF and the 822.5 Somehow, I'm gonna fit the new pearl white 5SW70MLF in there too. I fish 6# Halo on the MLXF and never felt it was underpowered. I had the LTB model before the SCV and it was enough rod to land many 10-15# cats from the depths of Erie. Quote
thehooligan Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 6'8 medium 1st gen Cumara is my goto drop shot rod. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 6'10" Daiwa TD-X spinning, 25 size Supreme XT, 6lb Invisix on the main spool, 8lb supernatural on the spare spool Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted September 18, 2014 Super User Posted September 18, 2014 Gen 1 Shimano Cumara ML 7'2 Gen 1 Shimano Cumara Med 7'2 XF Megabass Orochi XX shakeyhead rod Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9 ML Cabelas XML TI 6'9 medium DS All five rods range in price but the performance and action is there for what I need them do. All are paired with 2500 or equivalent size reels and 6-10# line. Quote
Super User David P Posted September 19, 2014 Super User Posted September 19, 2014 Dobyns 702 EXTREME. The Champions are great rods, well balanced as you said, but if you sensitivity is your goal the Extreme is awesome and has even better balance and feel. Champions are great rods, I use them for all my utility rod stuff, but anything bottom contact or where I want a lot of sensitivity, extremes fit the bill wonderfully. Quote
Ndnbasser Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 Megabass Orochi XX F3-611 Drop shot. Very happy with this rod. Had a Dobyns CH701 until stolen, I thought was good. Quote

offsidewing Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 6'10" St Croix MLXF rod either Avid X, LTB, or Elite. Will also double as an excellent Ned Rig rod. Also work well if you're into hair jigs. Quote
