Squirmin Wormin Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Was out fishing the other day but wasn't getting any results on top like i'd figure ,and its only been like 3 or 4 days since i put the pole up for a rest due to weather. I switched over to a 6 in worm purple /blu flake and was getting 3 fish but were small in size ,like 12 incher's . So is it over pretty much now for any bites on top ? and is the bites going to be mid and bottom from now on ? wouldn't mind some suggestions on tackle either for getting better bass results ,like 15 incher's on up ! and where would these bass be now its fall time ? would these bass be near cover,in cover ,deeper,or shallow ? its been like 3 days since i been fishing and when i was there didn't see any bait fish swimming near shore or bass either. don't know if that has anything to do with this , but think it does because where there's small fish ,there's a big fish close by. just need a better game plan for this and some suggestions ! thanks ! Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 16, 2014 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 The topwater bite is just starting to heat up around here. I've been doing pretty well all summer long on frogs and walking baits but lately a buzzbait and popper have really started to catch good numbers for me. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted September 16, 2014 Super User Posted September 16, 2014 The topwater bite is just starting to heat up around here. I've been doing pretty well all summer long on frogs and walking baits but lately a buzzbait and popper have really started to catch good numbers for me. Same, the top water bite is good all year long here for the most part. Poppers are starting to produce for me too. 1 Quote
starcraft1 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 You might want to try a bigger profile. Try a jig for the bottom and a swim jig or swim bait for top to bottom. To get a better ans., you might want to give more info. Like water temps., types of veg. in the water, bottom (hard, soft, ect.) If you have a hard bottom or rock plies, I'd throw a jig. Grass, try a swim jig or swim or glide bait. Tulles, pitch or flip either a jig or big tube. I thought we had a thread about more info. The better the info., the better the ans. or advice can be given. Hope this helped, good luck in these methods. 1 Quote
Super User deep Posted September 16, 2014 Super User Posted September 16, 2014 and where would these bass be now its fall time ? would these bass be near cover,in cover ,deeper,or shallow ? Try major points, that are close to the summer locations. Bass, any fish for that matter, needs oxygen, food, and security. If the water is too hot, look for shade, incoming creeks bringing in cooler water, Flowing or cooler water holds more O2. Look for green weeds. But location trumps all else. Cover is secondary or tertiary. Has the lake turned over yet? If so they could be anywhere, depending on the other factors. Quote
