I know theres a $50 difference but ive heard very good things about the team gold. It will be for dropshots, shakyheads, and darterheads. Paired with a g loomis DRS822s or st croix avid. What reel is better for the $$?

Stradic's are very good reels, have you entertained a 1000? At any rate , I believe the shimano to be superior, if you can mount the reel to the chosen rod... That would be ideal too...

Good luck on deciding...

I'm bias towards shimano however I own a Lews CF300. Reel is decent but the foot is too big. Doesn't fit in the reel seat of any of my spinning rods that don't have exposed threads. With that said the FJ is a solid workhorse and parts in the future will be available. I don't know how lews is with parts and repairs.

No fishing experience with Lews, with in-store fondling the reel was not impressive, the stradic would be my choice.

That Lew's Team Gold is a very solid reel. It is well refined and smooth both on casting and reeling. The frame is solid and palms easy. Both are good reels so you really can't go wrong but I believe the Lew's is better and it cost less, so you can't get a great reel and save a little cash.

You do realize he is talking spinning reels right? At least that is how I took the title of the thread. Curious about the palmability comment...

Shimano FJ's are very solid and dependable reels. I've had one for around 10 years I think.

Shimano Ci4+ are incredible reels. I have a 2500 and my next reel will be a 1000. I returned a new FJ this year to another Ci4+.

If you can find them on sale I'd get the Ci4+.

Id vote for the lews. I have the 300 size team gold and also the 300 size tournament hs. Both are super light for the size and very smooth. The gold is a touch lighter and smoother but not a huge difference for the price. I was kind of iffy on them because of the carbon frame but i havent noticed any flex even when fighting stripers and wipers. Plus you can pick up the team gold and still habe enough for line if you are planning on spending retail for the fj
